A design is a plan or specification for the construction of an object or system or for the implementation of an activity or process, or the result of that plan or specification in the form of a prototype, product or process. The verb to design expresses the process of developing a design. In some cases, the direct construction of an object without an explicit prior plan (such as in craftwork, some engineering, coding, and graphic design) may also be considered to be a design activity. The design usually has to satisfy certain goals and constraints, may take into account aesthetic, functional, economic, or socio-political considerations, and is expected to interact with a certain environment. Major examples of designs include architectural blueprints, engineering drawings, business processes, circuit diagrams, and sewing patterns. The person who produces a design is called a designer, which is a term generally used for people who work professionally in one of the various design areas—usually specifying which area is being dealt with (such as a fashion designer, product designer, web designer or interior designer), but also others such as architects and engineers. A designer's sequence of activities is called a design process, possibly using design methods. The process of creating a design can be brief (a quick sketch) or lengthy and complicated, involving considerable research, negotiation, reflection, modeling, interactive adjustment and re-design.
Greetings,
I've been looking at Physics forums few months ago, but I never taught of making an account. So now I'am motivated and I have made one and this is my first post.

so I am creating a simple electric motor and I need a circuit that will cut the power if it is stalled (since it can create a short if it is stalled, draining/damaging the batteries) - the problem is that it also creates a short for a small period of time while in regular use

Hey all!
I am thinking of building a box in which the insides can be held a constant temperature. I would like to see if I can determine some parameters for the box.
My first step is to determine heat loss through the box. I'm estimating that the largest difference in heat will be 101°C...

Hello,
I have a specific application where I need a custom lens designed to focus an image onto a very small cmos image sensor. So far, I've figured out the general angles of the lense but I need it to be a perfect design before money is put into prototyping it. Here's the specs:

So, I'm still working on designing an exhaust. The engine I'm using is the VR6, non-turbo, etc. I want to design the exhaust only under full throttle. This way I can over-design the exhaust rather than under-designing it. I'm really not sure how to find the velocity of the exhaust as it...
Hoping one will look nice in my new living room, I want one constructed about 7 feet high.
I think I understand the basics of how these machines work, but I'm wanting to change something.

I'm having a problem determining the upper and lower halves of a karnaugh map when trying to design a counter using flip flops. So where I am at is, taking a 4 bit table with the next state included, putting it into a next state map and then in the J-K, and S-R flip flops tables. I know the...
Hi,
I want to ask this question.
Why do lecturers select the problems they select in the problem sets? I don't understand why those problems have to be selected and not any others.
Hi,
***I just noticed this that I posted this in the wrong section thinking I was in the engineering forum...sorry!***

Greetings! We are designing a very basic two tank system with water flowing in one tank, and out the other. As illustrated here:
We have come up with two equations, which should be pretty self-explanatory. W is waterflow, A is area, h is the water level and so forth.
As you can see, we...
I need to design a scale. It is a simple 2-D problem. All you need to know is that it's a plate on a vertical spring. Each end of the plate slides a little ways into an indent. It is a scale for weighing ingredients in a bakery. A weight of 22lbs (+or- .25 lbs) is acceptable. If there isn't...
