What is Designing: Definition and 614 Discussions

A design is a plan or specification for the construction of an object or system or for the implementation of an activity or process, or the result of that plan or specification in the form of a prototype, product or process. The verb to design expresses the process of developing a design. In some cases, the direct construction of an object without an explicit prior plan (such as in craftwork, some engineering, coding, and graphic design) may also be considered to be a design activity. The design usually has to satisfy certain goals and constraints, may take into account aesthetic, functional, economic, or socio-political considerations, and is expected to interact with a certain environment. Major examples of designs include architectural blueprints, engineering drawings, business processes, circuit diagrams, and sewing patterns. The person who produces a design is called a designer, which is a term generally used for people who work professionally in one of the various design areas—usually specifying which area is being dealt with (such as a fashion designer, product designer, web designer or interior designer), but also others such as architects and engineers. A designer's sequence of activities is called a design process, possibly using design methods. The process of creating a design can be brief (a quick sketch) or lengthy and complicated, involving considerable research, negotiation, reflection, modeling, interactive adjustment and re-design.

Designing an AM Demodulator Circuit with No ICs

I'm currently doing Electronics at the University of Eindhoven (Netherlands) and we need to make an AM demodulator (input signal lays between 875 and 915 kHz). We have made some sort of circuit (two to be exactly), but we are questioning the accuracy of this demodulator. The main problem is we...

Designing a Gravity Car for Physics Class

Okay, going completely crazy here. I'm in accelerated physics and we just got assigned the gravity car. The way its supposed to work is like this-- a weight is supposed to be dropped from a certain height and its supposed to propel the car forward (GPE converted into KE and so on). The car is...

Designing a Fission Reactor for Long-Term Operation

another question. consider the possibility of designing a fission reactor that will operate for decades or even centuries without refueling. limit the investigation to thermal reactors with reaction rates = 2200 m/s cross section. Consider 3 fissile/fertile combinations: 1) Fissile= U-233...

Designing Primers: Finding Software to Test Primers

Now I am looking for some software to test primers with. I always used to eye-ball a sequence, and based on that pick some good looking sequences, put it into the Mac program: Amplify. This program then visualizes how specific and efficient the priming is on the target sequence by virtual pcr...

Just the other day, i was talking with my friend about Designer Babies, and he was like going, "It's disgusting! We are going against nature!" Stuff like that. Aren't babies/children/adults being shaped psychologically? When young, if we did something "wrong", like not doing our homework...
