In summary, there is a mixed opinion on creatine supplementation. Some individuals have reported benefits, such as improved muscle function, while others warn of potential side effects and advise against taking it. Current studies suggest that short-term use of creatine is safe, but more research is needed to fully understand its long-term effects.

Get off it now. Sorry to be blunt, but are you crazy? Do you know what that stuff does to you? Your muscles will all go away once you stop taking the stuff. Get off it NOW . Your doctor is an idiot to tell you that. He should have said no, do not take it. Its going to make you retain a lot of water and your muscles will look like water bags. I know guys who take creatine. Don't be one of them.

Not so fast...

Wikipedia said:
Current studies indicate that short-term creatine supplementation in healthy individuals is safe (Robinson et al., 2000), and a long term study suggests the same thing (Mayhew & Ware, 2002).

Related to Opinions on Creatine: Benefits & Side Effects

What is creatine and how does it work?

Creatine is a naturally occurring compound found in the body, mainly in the muscles. It is also found in food sources such as meat and fish. Creatine works by increasing the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the primary source of energy for cellular processes in the body. This allows for increased energy and improved performance during physical activity.

What are the benefits of taking creatine?

Creatine has been shown to have several benefits, including increased muscle mass, improved strength and power, and enhanced athletic performance. It may also help with muscle recovery and reducing fatigue during high-intensity exercise. Additionally, creatine has been linked to improved brain function and may have potential benefits for those with neurological conditions.

What are the potential side effects of creatine?

Some of the potential side effects of creatine include weight gain, bloating, and gastrointestinal distress. It may also cause dehydration and muscle cramping if not enough water is consumed. In rare cases, it has been associated with kidney and liver problems, but more research is needed to determine if creatine is the cause.

Is creatine safe to use long-term?

Research has shown that creatine is generally safe to use long-term, with no negative effects on kidney or liver function. However, it is important to follow recommended dosages and stay properly hydrated while taking creatine. Consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement.

Who can benefit from taking creatine?

Creatine is primarily used by athletes and bodybuilders to improve performance and enhance muscle growth. However, it may also benefit older adults by helping to maintain muscle mass and strength as they age. People with certain medical conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, may also benefit from taking creatine. It is always best to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement.
