What is Works: Definition and 447 Discussions

Microsoft Works was a productivity software suite developed by Microsoft and sold from 1987 to 2009. Its core functionality included a word processor, a spreadsheet and a database management system. Later versions had a calendar application and a dictionary while older releases included a terminal emulator. Works was available as a standalone program, and as part of a namesake home productivity suite. Because of its low cost ($40 retail, or as low as $2 OEM), companies frequently pre-installed Works on their low-cost machines. Works was smaller, less expensive, and had fewer features than Microsoft Office and other major office suites available at the time.

I don't understand how torque works

Is there any good pictorial representations of how torque, or a pulley, actually makes it easier to do work (less force required). I always hear that it spreads the work over a larger distance, hence why torque= distance*force, but that explanation just reiterates the mathematical equation. So...

What factors determine the potential difference in a battery cell?

Why do certain letters appear more frequently in written language?

English has the letter 'e' with most frequency. Other language also have some of their alphabets appearing more frequently in text hat others. Why is this? Why don't all letters appear with equal frequency? Do humans speak vowels more comfortably? What exactly is the reason?

Why insertion sort works better than quick-sort for small data?

I have seen in books that when number of elements is small ~ 30-40 insertion sort is recommended. Why is that? The worst case of insertion sort is n2 whereas for quick-sort it is nlogn. nlogn beats n2 for all values of n isn't it? Then why?

Why Does My Cell Phone Work Inside a Metallic Elevator?

How using a mirror to find the tangent at a point on the curve works
