Paper is a thin sheet material produced by mechanically or chemically processing cellulose fibres derived from wood, rags, grasses or other vegetable sources in water, draining the water through fine mesh leaving the fibre evenly distributed on the surface, followed by pressing and drying. Although paper was originally made in single sheets by hand, almost all is now made on large machines—some making reels 10 metres wide, running at 2,000 metres per minute and up to 600,000 tonnes a year. It is a versatile material with many uses, including printing, packaging, decorating, writing, cleaning, filter paper, wallpaper, book endpaper, conservation paper, laminated worktops, toilet tissue, currency and security paper and a number of industrial and construction processes.
The papermaking process developed in east Asia, probably China, at least as early as 105 CE, by the Han court eunuch Cai Lun, although the earliest archaeological fragments of paper derive from the 2nd century BCE in China. The modern pulp and paper industry is global, with China leading its production and the United States following.
I am electrical engineering senior taking a class on power generator, power distribution, and motor design. I am looking for final papers ideas. I am very interested in energy storage and its applications. One paper I found was http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/7362184/?reload=true. I am...
What do people think of this paper? If I understand correctly, they are saying that the need for Λ disappears if we do N-body simulations that properly take account of GR. I think they are saying that past simulations have used Newtonian approximations that don't properly account for density...
Hey all! I'm new to Physics Forums. I'm going through Hawking's famous 1975 paper "Particle Creation by Black Holes" which presents the phenomenon later known as Hawking radiation. I'm going through it for the sake of my own learning and benefit since the paper is a bit ahead of my edge as a...

They claimed to have shown that non local causaulity models of QM do not work. But does that include the Transactional interpretation, which is non local and retrocausal?
For my senior project I am writing a paper on the Higgs Boson. Whatever project we decide to do we have to have an accompanying research paper. I am unable to write about anything that I mention in my paper (everything involving the Higgs). What are some related topics that I could do my second...
If you had something particularly nasty like

I asked my teacher about how to begin approaching that kind of computation of logarithm.
He was not very interesyed in explaining the procedures of estimating the value of the log. Perhaps the procedure went beyond the scope of...
Hello,
I have been reflecting over this for the past few days. We can charge two insulators by rubbing them against each other. The two materials end up having an equal amount of opposite charge. For example, a glass rod rubbed with silk will become positively charged and the silk negatively...
This isn't exactly homework or coursework, it is a past paper question that I cannot find a solution to (my university doesn't like releasing answers for some reason unknown to me).
The question is attached as an image (edit: the image displays while editing but not in the post, so I'll try to...
Hi guys,
This is my first time posting on PF!

This question is mainly geared toward @ZapperZ, since I know you have a good deal of expertise in superconductivity and in STS/STM. I saw this paper in my journal alerts early early last year:

I am writing a paper. I am looking for a journal that:
-Accepts theoretical physics papers
-Is reputable
-Peer reviews submitted papers
-Will not charge me very much in terms of a publishing fee (or any other fees)
-I keep the copyright on my paper
An online only journal is fine.
Does anyone...

Here is the arxiv link. I'd be interested to hear comments from people more expert than I. The claim is that both dark energy and dark matter can be understood as consequences of gravity as an entropic force.
hello, a bit of topic. we're having an exhibition at my university to display outstanding papers. my paper was about my passion for mathematics. I am seeking some ideas to make visitors want to read my paper. I don't want something too childish. I was thinking of making a string model of some...
So I just read a paper called Fermion masses, mixings and proton decay in a Randall–Sundrum model (it's in Physics Letters B 498(3-4):256–262, but you can also find it at arXiv:hep-ph/0010195v2). Anyways, there us an equation in it [Pg. 8, 4.14] $$ \int \,dx^4 \int \,dy \sqrt{-g}...

I have some questions about the first discovery paper that was released about gravitational waves, especially some of the maths.
How did they:

2. Calculate the energy radiated away in gravitational waves
3. Calculate how far away the event...

Every once in awhile I'll change my writing set up to use thicker lead, differently lined paper, type of notebook, etc. I never seem to be satisfied with anyone of them and it can be a hassle trying to keep everything in one place if they're all in different formats.
At the moment, I'm writing...
Ok I can't tell if this should go in academic guidance or homework questions so I'll just put it here. I decided to do my high school senior project writing a paper on a recent discovery in physics. I narrowed my topic choices down to either photonic particles, exotic hadrons, or the Higgs. I...
I'm currently writing a paper on the Multiverse. I do have a theory of my own and have made the outline and started working on it. However, the language seems to unscientific, in the sense, its not very objective and crisp. How do i improve the quality of language and content of the paper.

How to submit paper to physical review letter? is there any specific criteria such as recomendation from expert? or can we submit without recomendation?
I am currently writing my first mathematics paper but I don't know how to formally represent and show the process of rearranging a certain equation; for example what symbols would I use etc..?

I am looking for a small journal to submit my recent paper.
I hope it can

3. listed on SCI
It does not matter which country does it belong to. Nor do I mind whether is it small or not.
Has anyone any...
My professor wants to give me (and another kid) a problem in quantum cosmology. To that end, he asked me to read through his recent paper that appeared in the Physical Review Letters. He said that I should be able to go through it since all the paper employs is (quantum) scalar field theory...
Many phisicists writed scientific papers at early age like maxwell who wrote one at 14 another one at 16 then at 18 but these 3 papers weren't a new theory or discovery right ? So why a scientific paper is always noted in the biography of physicists if it's not important because it's not a...
Hello,
A ways back I was reading something on Aharanov's flavor of QM, Time Symmetric Quantum Mechanics (TSQM), which referenced an upcoming paper. To be covered in that paper was the following.
It's been mentioned that within TSQM there are three seemingly mutually exclusive "principles"...
I have recently read a paper called "Engineering of Gravity and Time" for an undergraduate student. It contains a theory of gravity and time depending on rotation.

Hello, I'm looking for a free copy of Wien's seminal paper "On the division of energy in the emission-spectrum of a black body", in which he introduces his important blackbody approximation.
