What is Physics degree: Definition and 221 Discussions
Physics education refers to the methods currently used to teach physics. Physics Education Research refers to an area of pedagogical research that seeks to improve those methods. Historically, physics has been taught at the high school and college level primarily by the lecture method together with laboratory exercises aimed at verifying concepts taught in the lectures. These concepts are better understood when lectures are accompanied with demonstration, hand-on experiments, and questions that require students to ponder what will happen in an experiment and why. Students who participate in active learning for example with hands-on experiments learn through self-discovery. By trial and error they learn to change their preconceptions about phenomena in physics and discover the underlying concepts.
Ok might sound bloody silly but who cares this is a forum and none of you know me. Ok I am about to start uni in 3 weeks doing a physics degree at nottingham university. and i know that none of you will have done this degreee at this uni but I am sure it doesn't change much.
What should I...
Hello all,
I recently graduated from high school, and accepted my offer to a pretty good university in the faculty of science. I am going to be majoring in physics and/or chemistry. I just want to know if it is right for me. More specifically, what do people do out there with a physics...
Ok, so my academic career has been anything but traditional so far, but whatever. I'm heading back to uni this fall. I spent a year and a half at uni already. When I started off I was already well ahead as far as my math degree went. The second year there, I decided to study phyiscs/astronomy as...
On the surface, Computational Physics appeals to me a lot. I'm very interested in physics, computer programming, creating simulations of mechanical systems, and games programming.
However, I don't really know what Computational Physics is.
What would I learn?
How attractive would I be to...
I am a sophomore in high school, and I will be taking AP Physics my Junior year along with Calculus. I want to go to college to get my masters in some field of physics, but I am not sure what. I am very good at math, and a lot of my previous classes went much too slow for me. My goal is to get...
Hi,
I'm confused about what grad school I'd like to go to.. I'm taking physics first year university and was wondering if this would give an advantage what-so ever into entering grad schools,.. or do they not lookat it at all?
What kind of jobs can a physics major get in the engineering? Or do you have to get a masters if one wanted to switch? I want to work in the aerospace industry with rockets or satellites. What are my options for entry level postions?
Hi, I'm a computer programmer who's just signed up for a physics degree with the Open University (UK) and I'm still undecided where to direct my study with regards choice of modules.
Astronomy amazes me, the overwhelming size and age of the universe makes my head spin and excites my...
Some Background first.
basically I am a 24 yr old with a AAS in autobody repair who decided to go after something i should have done right out of high school had i been bright enough. So I am back in school at a local community colledge in a program designed to transfer right to the u of mn...

I would just like to share some wisdom gained by experience.
If you are considering doing a degree in physics in the UK, job wise it won't be a good idea to pursue that path unless you achieve a first class degree from a good university.
If you get a 2:1 or less you'll most likely have to...
sorry if this is a repost, i am sure this question has been asked MANY times
BESIDES teaching high school
what kind of jobs can a bachelor's, masters, and PhD in physics get you?
Money is not my primary concern, i would like to actually like to apply my nowledge and actually acknowledge...
I am currently at kings college london physics department and have found the biggest reason i am having problems is because when the lecturers speak
they don't speak clear and concisely and they usually have a foreign accent and stress there syalubuls incorrectly. This coupled with the fact...
What all can you do with a Physics degree? Me in particular am thinking of taking up particle physics. Just one problem, physicists study and research stuff but I want to design stuff.
So I'm thinking of a kind of engineering that has physics involved. That's brought me to electrical and...
I currently work in a completely unrelated field and ma not interested in a career change. I graduated from UF with a bachelors and masters in management. There is still a huge void I am feeling these days that I never took my love for physics seriously enough. I would like to take some physics...

I had my final Physics degree viva today, and in the discussion of my course on complex analysis the idea of 'hypercomplex' numbers came up. Doing some reading tonight I've found mention of Quaternions. What mathematical problems are they used in / for / etc?
Hi I am just in my first yr doing a physical & life sciences degree, Its a 3 yr course for ordinary degree & 4 yrs for honours degree, but in the second year I have to choose in which direction I am heading in, ie for physics, Chemistry, or Biology.

Hello,
I am married with 2 teenage children. In 1999, I decided I should go to college and do something with myself. I took the ACT exam and scored a 34 composite score (out of 36). I then applied to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and was accepted. I chose to pursue a degree in...
