What is the Role of Compliance in Hydrostatic and Hydrodynamic Bearings?

In summary, the role of compliance in hydrostatic and hydrodynamic bearings is to provide a cushioning effect that allows for smooth movement and reduces friction between surfaces. Compliance refers to the ability of a material to deform under pressure, allowing for the bearing to adapt to changing loads and maintain a constant film thickness between the rotating and stationary surfaces. This is crucial in preventing metal-to-metal contact and minimizing wear and tear on the bearing components. Compliance is also important in maintaining the stability and balance of the bearing, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.

How did you find PF?
By chance, while looking up the web for a good scientific forum.
I'm a mechanical engineer, currently doing a PhD in tribology, while also teaching undergraduate students machine elements. My topic of interest within my thesis is the effect of compliance in hydrostatic and hydrodynamic bearings. In my spare time, I enjoy reading good literature and painting.
