In summary, the conversation discusses the concept of genotype frequency, which refers to the proportion of individuals in a population with a particular genetic makeup. The frequency of a genotype is determined by counting the number of individuals with that genotype and dividing it by the total population. Studying genotypes with low frequencies can provide insights into genetic diversity and identify rare genetic variations. The frequency of a genotype can change over time due to various factors, and scientists use methods such as genetic testing and population surveys to determine genotype frequencies accurately.

Homework Statement
NA
Relevant Equations
The right answer is (d).

But unlike the Q which asks which one has the least frequency, I think the frequency of this genotype (d) will be 0%. Because it is not possible to transform the recipient bacterial DNA with a DNA segment where only two terminal genes recombine but the central gene does not.
Please clarify if I'm wrong.

It is possible for multiple crossover events to occur during recombination. See for example, figure 9-10 in https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK21351/#_A1413_

Related to What is the genotype with lowest frequency?

What is the genotype with lowest frequency?

The genotype with the lowest frequency refers to the genetic makeup of an individual or population that occurs less frequently compared to other genotypes. This can be determined through various methods such as genetic testing or population studies.

How is the frequency of a genotype determined?

The frequency of a genotype is determined by calculating the number of individuals in a population with a specific genotype and dividing it by the total number of individuals in the population. This value is then expressed as a percentage or decimal.

Why is it important to study genotypes with low frequency?

Studying genotypes with low frequency is important because it can provide valuable insights into genetic diversity and evolution. It can also help identify rare genetic disorders and understand their inheritance patterns.

Can the frequency of a genotype change over time?

Yes, the frequency of a genotype can change over time due to various factors such as natural selection, genetic drift, and migration. This can lead to changes in the genetic makeup of a population and impact the prevalence of certain genotypes.

What is the significance of the genotype with the lowest frequency?

The genotype with the lowest frequency may hold unique genetic variations that can provide advantages or disadvantages to an individual or population. Studying these genotypes can help us better understand the complexity of genetics and its role in shaping biological traits.
