The Duke of Edinburgh, as he was also known, was only two months and a day short of reaching his 100th birthday. The BBC interrupted programming to broadcast the national anthem, God Save the Queen, in response to the news of the death of a man who – as Britain’s longest-serving consort - has been at the centre of public life longer than many have been alive.

I read that he came up short by only two months and a day. We could almost call that rounding error!

Everybody in Britain who reaches age 100 gets a congratulatory telegram from the Queen.
So sad, among other reasons , he missed his by so little.
I sincerely wish Her Majesty to live to send herself one.
