Software to model magnetic fields in a core

In summary, the conversation discusses the search for a software that can model magnetic fields through a simple core with an air gap. The individual mentions Comsol and FEMM, but is struggling with Comsol's difficult documentation and FEMM being only available on Windows. The conversation also mentions other potential software options such as MaxFem and Vizimag. Finally, the individual shares some resources for using Comsol to model similar situations.

Hi I am looking around for some way to model magnetic fields through a simple core with an air gap similar to this image :

I was thinking Comsol... but Comsol is so hard to figure out, their documentation is terrible... I was looking at FEMM, but its only on windows. Does anyone know how to model this in comsol, or know a easier way to do it on mac ? Otherwise... would I be better off buying a windows machine and using Solidworks or FEMM or something else?

Related to Software to model magnetic fields in a core

1. What is the purpose of using software to model magnetic fields in a core?

The purpose of using software to model magnetic fields in a core is to accurately predict and analyze the behavior of magnetic fields in a specific material or structure. This information can then be used to optimize designs and improve the overall efficiency of magnetic devices.

2. How do these software programs work?

These software programs use mathematical equations and algorithms to simulate the behavior of magnetic fields in a core. They take into account factors such as the material properties, geometry, and external forces to generate a 3D representation of the magnetic field distribution.

3. What types of materials can be modeled using these software programs?

These software programs can model a wide range of materials, including ferromagnetic, paramagnetic, and diamagnetic materials. They can also be used to model complex structures such as transformers, motors, and generators.

4. Are these software programs accurate?

Yes, these software programs are highly accurate when used correctly. However, the accuracy of the results depends on the accuracy of the input parameters and assumptions made during the modeling process. It is important to validate the results with experimental data.

5. What are some common applications of software for modeling magnetic fields in a core?

These software programs are commonly used in industries such as electrical engineering, materials science, and physics. They are used to design and optimize magnetic devices, as well as in research to understand the behavior of magnetic fields in different materials and structures.
