Who's interested is this event?

If so, what events?

I like watching the weightlifting. It's quite entertaining watching pre-lift hype...

What a bore, a redundant set of games pandering to nationalism, run for the benefit of "international sport administrators".

I'm just waiting for the usual suspects in the UK who are hyping the games to switch immediately after the closing ceremony to criticizing the costs, and the debts that the public will be forced to pick up.

(redundant since every sport has its' own championships/competitions)

IIRC the shooting event/s will be staged at Camp Bastion for better security, but that may just be a result of false memory syndrome)

Captain cock-up has already managed to strike

I'm not interested in the games if the truth be told, I just want the football season to start again. I'd have liked it if LOCOG had told the IOC where to stick their stupid sponsorship lane rules - what are they going to do? Move them when it's already started and it's not like this country will ever get them again.

That too. I want it on record that I don't care for the games from the start although I may watch the football out of boredom.

edit: I wonder if the news will massage the figures to make it look like Team GB did better than they actually did?

I'm not a big fan of watching sports except for tennis, because I play that quite a bit. Swimming seems to be a big one many Americans watch, especially since Michael Phelps won so much last time.

I honestly don't know if an international event like this calms international tensions or stirs them up, but I lean toward them being a healthier outlet for national pride than some other methods. Agreed that hosting the Olympics is a nightmare and from what I read a large debt for such an honor, if you consider it that.

I admit I haven't watched it but I heard about this gag and thought it sounded funny.

Didn't watch it (except for Seb Coe's performance in the tedious public speaking event, a record breaking performance if I ever saw one but didn't stick around for the other cometitors so don't know if he was in the medals).

As I said I did not watch it but caught snippets as I was passing through the living room where the family was watching, but I have been reading what the papers have been saying about the international reaction.

It seems that the general reaction in the foreign media seems favorable, except for the US media who seem to have disliked the prominent appearance of socialised medicine (NHS) and the labour movement as something the UK is proud of (you can be proud of something even though it has faults).

Pissing-off the US right and libertarians seems to me nothing but a "good thing".
