thanks a lot guys. Any way can you tell me if hacer is cambio de raiz or ortografico?

  • #5
what do you mean?

Hacer is a verb in its basic form, just like for example To Fly, is in its base form.

If you mean "ortográfico" [ortographic difficulty] by the similarities in pronouncing
a ser and Hacer?

You can divide the "infinitivo" of verbs in various categories (hacer is an infinitivo). Two of these categories are "cambio de raiz" and "cambios ortográficos". Hacer doesn't belong by any means to "cambio de raiz" because this category only accepts "infinitivos" ending in -ir (dormir, reir, etc). However, I have been looking for the verb hacer in the "cambios ortograficos" category and doesn't appear there; in fact it appears in an unnamed category. So, i think that it doesn't belongs to "cambio de raiz" neither "cambios ortográficos"

Clausius, how did you type the letters with accents here? Do you copy and paste them in or is there a way to directly type them into the reply window? It's been too long since I've taken Spanish classes or been around people speaking it to remember much, but I'm going to be reading along here to see if I can start reabsorbing some of it. Now I need to look up "cole."

i don't, but in this amazon page thre's a review of a reader that can give you some hint

Also what do you know about the Mexican Independence?
I'm sorry, practically nothing but I could tell you lot of things about the history of Spain. Anyway, here's some info
"The war for independence started September 16, 1810, and was spearheaded by Miguel Hidalgo, a priest of Spanish descent and progressive ideas. After Napoleon I invaded Spain and put his brother on the Spanish throne, Mexican Conservatives and rich land-owners who supported Spain's Bourbon royal family objected to the comparatively more liberal Napoleonic policies. Thus an unlikely alliance was formed in Mexico: liberales, or Liberals, who favored a democratic Mexico, and conservadores, or Conservatives, who favored Mexico ruled by a Bourbon monarch who would restore the old status quo. These two elements agreed only that Mexico must achieve independence and determine her own destiny.

Prominent figures in Mexico's war for independence were Father José María Morelos, Vicente Guerrero, General Agustín de Iturbide, and General Antonio López de Santa Anna. The war for independence lasted 11 years until the troops of the liberating army entered Mexico City in 1821. Thus although independence from Spain was first proclaimed in 1810, it was not achieved until August 1821, by the Contract of Córdoba, Veracruz, which was signed by the Spanish viceroy Juan de O'Donojú and Agustín de Iturbide, ratifying the Plan de Iguala.

In 1821 Agustín de Iturbide, a former Spanish general who switched sides to fight for Mexican independence, proclaimed himself emperor – officially as a temporary measure until a member of European royalty could be persuaded to become monarch of Mexico (see Mexican Empire for more information). A revolt against Iturbide in 1823 established the Republic of Mexico. In 1824 "Guadalupe Victoria" became the first president of the new country; his given name was actually Félix Fernández but he chose his new name for symbolic significance: Guadalupe to give thanks for the protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Victoria which means Victory"

Now I need to look up "cole."
cole is a shortening for colegio (school)
If you were a specialist in both science and letters, then you would be a genius. I regret to have studied letters in my youth

Jose Maria Morelos Y Pavon otro sacerdote continuó a qué Hidalgo no terminó.

Hmmm... I don't know. I have a keyboard with accents. Don't you have this key : ( ´ ) ? I think I have realized myself just now that our keyboards are different...

"cole"=it means the primary school, in an informal way. (more formal would be "colegio", but it has nothing to do with college, which is part of a university, isn't it?)

Trans: "To say the truth, the spanish and mexican languages are a bit different in some words and expressions".

Yes, it seems we have different keyboards. For me to put accents on letters, I need to use symbol fonts. Same for the tilda. I have a tilda on my keyboard, but it won't put it over a letter just after it, like this a~. Not very helpful for typing in Spanish.

Thanks for defining "cole." Now I know why I couldn't find it in the dictionary, it's an informal word, and I don't think the dictionary I have includes things like that. Yes, a college would be a part of a university, not a primary school. Probably similar origins to the words, but not quite the same meaning.
