Anyone with Experience with EngD rather than PhD?

In summary, Engineering Doctorates (EngDs) have been gaining popularity as an alternative to PhDs in the UK and possibly other countries. While they require an extra year of study and involve coursework in management and law, EngD candidates typically receive a higher stipend and have the opportunity to work with a company. After completing their degree, they may choose to stay with their company, pursue research, or explore other options in the industry.

In the UK (and probably elsewhere) Engineering Doctorates - EngD - have been on the rise for the last 10 years as an alternative to PhDs. Has anyone here done one? Know people who have?

I know it's 4 years rather than 3, and there is some management and law coursework (for some of them at least) and that you get a much higher stipend because half your work is with a company. But how have EngD canditates fared after they have their degree? Do they stay with their companies? move onto research?

move into industry?I don't personally know anyone who has done an EngD, but I do know one person who is currently doing one. From what they've said, it does seem that after completing their EngD they are likely to stay with the company they have been working with. However, they may also move into research or other roles in industry. As the EngD involves some management and law coursework, this could open up opportunities for them in these areas.
