What is Banked curve: Definition and 109 Discussions

A banked turn (or banking turn) is a turn or change of direction in which the vehicle banks or inclines, usually towards the inside of the turn. For a road or railroad this is usually due to the roadbed having a transverse down-slope towards the inside of the curve. The bank angle is the angle at which the vehicle is inclined about its longitudinal axis with respect to the horizontal.

How Does a Car Maintain Stability on a Banked Curve?

A car is turning on a banked curve. The coefficient static friction between the car and the pavement is 0.30 and the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.25. The angle of the banking is 25 degrees, and the radius of the curve is 50 m. What is the minimum speed the car can have before sliding...

About to take an exam and I STILL dont understand banked curve questions.

How would I go about solving this problem? Determine the minimum angle at which a road should be banked so that a car traveling at 21.5 m/s can safely negotiate the curve if the radius of the curve is 159 m. If anyone has any sites explaining how to as well I'd appreciate it if you could...

Banked Race Track Physics Problem: Max and Min Speeds without Friction

On a banked race track, the smallest circular path on which cars can move has a radius r1 = 111 m, while the largest has a radius r2 = 163 m. The height of the outer wall is 18 m. (a) Find the smallest speed at which cars can move on this track without relying on friction. (b) Find the...

Coefficient of Friction for 25° Banked Curve

Hey everyone, I could use some help with this problem. What coefficient of friction is required to make a 25 degree banked curve safe at 90. km/h, if without friction it is safe at 60. km/h? Any help would be appriciated.
