jrmichler I was looking for advise from experienced people in the Mechanical Engineering area of journal bearings. Your post is not only unuseful but also improper. If you do not have the required experience, keep your advise for your self. I appreciate the other post the at least try to help.
Below the reply to the questions posted about the equipment.
1. Lubrication is by a pressurized system
2. The gear reducer is Westech model 301-3 S/N 3302 Solar P/N 50583-8
3, This is a rebuilt reducer.
4. At this time, getting parts from abroad is very difficult, and so repair if of utmost...
Would need to know radial clearance, recommended viscosity of oil and babbit alloy of the journal bearings of a gear reducer of following dimensions and specifications:
1400 HP
22300 RPM input
6400 RPM output
Journal diameter of input bearings 2 in, length 3 in, 2 bearings
Journal diameter of...
Would need advise on which is the maximum allowed compression to apply to a gasket according to the thickness of the gasket. If this information is available from the manufacturers, would like to know. Also, if once used, the gasket can be reinstalled and which is the experience about that.
Would need some advise on how to prevent the blades from melting when pouring the nodular iron into the piece mold. If somebody has experience on the matter or can recommend literature that could help in developing a successful .
The reason for using the mixture instead of "boiling" the chain, is that I prefer to put few drops in every link in order to keep the outside of the chain free of any greasy mixture that could attract dirt.
Does it make sense to mix a petroleum solvent with grease in order to lubricate a chain so the mixture gets well inside the rollers and wait for the solvent to evaporate, leaving a film of grease within the chain components? Will this happen? Lube oils work fine but leave the chain after few...
Though it is hard not to believe in the spacetime curvature that cause planets to follow curved path arround massive objects, I wander how come these paths are eliptical, the object change velocity when moving arround the massive object and what is more obeys the Keppler laws. If there is not...
Seems to be the merry go round was not a good example. Forget about it and the horses. Let us think what happens at he periphery of a neutron star with 2 marks at the Equator of the star and separated 1 km. In response to Dale, there are about 100 Million Neutron stars in the Milky Way that...
Obviously am not proposing this thread to discuss the resistance of the material spinning at higher speed. My point is if I am stationary and I measure that 2 points in the mass-less rotating circle get closer is it because angle I measure shrinks or because the radius of the sniping circle...
The explanation of magnetic unbalance being caused by aerodynamic forces generated by cooling fans, makes a lot of sense. Then, in big motors, finding the magnetic unbalance seems to be only one way to find them: Testing. Running the motor at no load and measuring the displacement of the shaft...
