Can i do modulus on a TI-83? How can i compute a negative modulus?

great, ill take note of that function of my calculator.

Can i do modulus on a TI-83? How can i compute a negative modulus?

Wow, that's extremely simple and a lot more clear than how my prof explained it. You wouldn't have an equivalently elegant way of explaining modular division [reciprocals] would you? The only way he told us how to do, say 5(-1)mod26 {where 5(-1) is representing the reciprocal of 5), is to use...

How Should Birthdays Be Counted for a Class of 60?

Yeah I should have thought about the distinguishable factor. combinations don't care about any particular order so they can have repeats of cases...as far as what I've learned about them...whereas permutations only count specific outcomes once [making the outcomes distinguishable] and yes, i see...

How Should Birthdays Be Counted for a Class of 60?

I just started a probability course and I'm not sure if i should use a combination or permutation for this question: How many ways are there that no two students will have the same birth date in a class size of 60? Should i do 365C60 or 365P60? Thanks so much! -Amanda

Can i do modulus on a TI-83? How can i compute a negative modulus?

Just to clarify, youre saying -7mod8 would be 1? [-7+8] = 1 < 8, the answer is one? and -21mod8 would be 3 because [-21 + 24] = 3 < 8? Thanks so much this really did help a LOT. I don't think there's a way to do mod on the calculator everywhere i look says you must program it yourself.

Can i do modulus on a TI-83? How can i compute a negative modulus?

I am studying Integer Modulo in my Cryptography and Data Security class. We are dealing with mainly modulo 26 [the alphabet] right now. I understand if it is addition or multiplication you just take the remainder of the result divided by, let's say 26 in this circumstance. ie: (5+25)mod26 = 4...

CD DVD+/-RW Drive Burner INSTALLATION help

Hi all! I am not asking anyone to tell me how to install this hardware, I just cannot find anywhere on the internet that will give me instructions on how to install this internal drive! I have a Sony VAIO VGN-NW240F and the existing drive is inoperable so i purchased a new internal drive to...

Why Planck Scale? Reasons & String Theory

What are the reasons for scientists believing the Planck scale is the smallest unit of length? I have been hearing a lot of this length scale recently and i know we can't even do expiremental research at these small of levels. I'm wondering where they got the idea that strings [from string...

Courses Which course should i look for?

"Contemporary researchers strive to understand complex physical phenomena that involve many constituents, may be influenced by numerous forces, and may exhibit unexpected or emergent behavior. Often such “complex systems“ are macroscopic manifestations of other systems that exhibit their own...

Courses Which course should i look for?

I am extremely interested in complex systems and i know that it is studied primarily using mathematics. I would really enjoy formally learning this material so that i can apply it. Are there any known courses that cover complex systems or touch on it at all? What courses should i be looking for...

    Self-Organizing systems discussion 2:

excellent excellent, thank you guys! and also, thanks for getting me started on looking at Planck energy and length. it led me to holographic theory and super symmetry theory, great stuff! Now, if we can't get to Planck length expirementally [its so small], does this mean we can in no way...

    Self-Organizing systems discussion:

Hey guys: this is a source where i extracted my statement on algorithms encoded in the genome: http://web.mac.com/camazine/Camazine/Self-organization_files/Self-organization.pdf May i remind you that this is extremely hypothetical! Thank you all so much for the insights and the links, I am...

    Self-Organizing systems discussion 2:

atyy, can you please expand? our theories of the small are emergent because we are looking at the "small" on a larger scale [extra dimensions] than that of the plank scale? so our "small" are emergent?

    Self-Organizing systems discussion 2:

i forgot to clarify: self-organizing systems are physical and biological systems in which pattern and structure at the global level arises solely from interactions among the lower-level components of the system. the systems components are executed using only local information, without reference...
