Why Doesn't a Satellite's Radial Velocity Increase as It Revolves?

but isn't it wrong to say the object (satellite) is falling at a constant rate, because the rate would increase the longer it falls... the speed increases in a free fall -- especially with no air resistance -- so all this language about an object free falling around the Earth is wrong I think.

Why Don't Satellites Fall Into Earth? Exploring Gravity's Effects

Thnaks for responding, they move tangent to the orbit at a uniform velocity but the force of gravity should accelerate the satellite or planet, just like in our atmosphere, speed increases as a body falls due to gravity. it accelerates, the fall is not a constant speed -- so why does the...

Why Doesn't a Satellite's Radial Velocity Increase as It Revolves?

Why doesn't a satellite's radial velocity (falling toward the Earth's center of gravity) increase as it it revolving --- I understand why its tangential speed stays the same but what is stopping the satellite from accelerating in its fall -- there is no air resistance up there. In other words...

Why Don't Satellites Fall Into Earth? Exploring Gravity's Effects

when a satalite orbits the Earth my text states that it is constantly falling into the Earth as it moves tangentially -- my question is why doesn't the speed of the object falling into the Earth increase radially since it is acted upon by the force of gravity, a force of gravity would cause an...

How was the vector cross product derived?

content not to know for now :bugeye: lurflurf you gave me enough to know that I will wait till my calc 3 undegraduate level of math is completed before I really follow your reply. For now I think I know that the need for the properties of a cross product drove a legit derrivation -- originally...

How was the vector cross product derived?

In my calc book the derivation of the vector cross product is not derrived but rather just given. I've read in another book that William Rowan Hamilton, after years of work, came up with the basic form we momorize today and symbolize with determinants. Does anybody know how this vector cross...

Why Does the Determinant of a Matrix Represent the Cross Product?

derivation of Vector Cross Product Using determinants to describe cross products I think was discovered by a mathamatician named William Rowan Hamiliton. He came up with the algebraic forms in dot and cross products, but I have no idea how he did it. Does anybody know. I just memorize the...
