What type of schools should a student go , Polytechnic or Institute of Technology, if he want to receive a higher education for research & development?
HallsofIvy said:We would need more information. I've know some "polytechnic"s that were no more than schools for mechanics, some that were good universities. It might also matter which "Institute of Technology"!
A polytechnic is a type of educational institution that focuses on practical, hands-on training in technical and vocational fields. An institute of technology, on the other hand, is a higher education institution that offers a wide range of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs, as well as research opportunities.
Both polytechnics and institutes of technology offer opportunities for research and development, but institutes of technology may provide a more comprehensive and in-depth education in STEM fields, making it a better choice for those interested in pursuing a career in research and development.
Polytechnics typically offer programs in fields such as engineering, computer science, and healthcare, while institutes of technology may offer a wider range of programs including applied sciences, business, and design.
Polytechnics often focus on hands-on, practical training while institutes of technology may also include more traditional classroom teaching. However, both types of institutions may incorporate a mix of teaching methods to provide a well-rounded education.
While graduates from both types of institutions may have similar job prospects, those who have graduated from institutes of technology may have a wider range of career opportunities available to them due to the broader range of programs offered. Additionally, graduates from an institute of technology may have a stronger foundation in research and development, making them more competitive for certain job positions in those fields.
