Engineering: Is a masters degree basically required these days?

In summary, having a 4-year degree, specifically a BS in engineering, can still lead to job opportunities and success in the field. While a master's degree may not be necessary for many positions, it can serve as a valuable asset and may be obtained later in one's career. This is evidenced by the experiences of working engineers without advanced degrees and the potential for career advancement through further education.

The majority of working engineers do not have masters' degrees. You may not get your "dream job" with only a BS, but you should have no problem finding employment, at least in most geographic areas. After a few years of experience, it's almost a moot point.

My sister got a BS in Industrial Engineerings and ended up going into law. My dad worked as an Electrical Engineer for many years with a BS. Then later his company paid for a MBA. I'd say it's atleast a fantastic stepping stone into many areas.
