Hello all,

As I noted in this thread, we are aiming to switch from vBulletin to XenForo as the software that we run on. In general XF is faster, more modern, and continues to be developed on while vB4 has stopped all active development.

For the last month or so I've been working with a web designer to help migrate our custom style over to XF. The heart of the design is staying the same, but we are using this as a chance to update some small things in our overall aesthetic. I'm very pleased with the design right now. :)

That said, it's always better to have extra eyes on this type of thing and to get more feedback. If you are interested in previewing the new site and style, please comment in this thread and I'll get in touch with you with a link to our development site where you can view it and play around with XenForo. If you can share you feedback that would be very useful!

I recommend you make the MHB Style the default, instead of the plain vanilla blue style.

Oh, and another suggestion: the default notification settings are going to seriously SPAM users. If people want those settings, they can change them, but I don't think checking all the boxes should be the default.

Is there a way to add a LinkedIn profile under Preferences >> Account Details >> Identities?

LaTeX works on the new site! Making progress. Still open for volunteers to test it out. Would love feedback!

Hi all,

Style is finalized. Next step is to bring in someone to import all of the historical posts and content from MHB to the new forum software. All of that will be saved as well as our "Thanks". I have LaTeX working which is great. Still need to figure out Desmos and TikZ so until then I won't go live but just giving everyone an update status. I'm projecting end of January for the site migration date when we go live with new software.

Update - we are very close to being done! New software is up and running on a test environment and we are able to import MHB's historical posts. There are a few small things to wrap up so I'm still aiming for the end of this month.

Hi again everyone,

Latest update is I just met with a software developer who will handle some of the smaller migration details so we can make the move by end of month. The remaining details are:

1) Desmos
2) TikZ
3) POTW functionality, where you submit a response and the response is hidden from public view
4) Username markup - this is custom BBCode written by MarkFL where usernames are given the proper color and a link is created to their profile page
5) LaTeX integration

If anyone can think of something that I might have missed, now is the final final time to bring it up!! :)

Hi all,

I know it's been a series of "we're getting close" but the dev team I hired to help with the key pieces of functionality I listed above has shown me working versions of most of the list! We have Desmos and user name markups working properly in XF. The last thing to handle is TikZ. Once these are all confirmed I will post the date, most likely on a weekend, where I will pause MHB for 1-2 days and go ahead wit the switch to Xenforo.

All posts will be maintained. LaTeX, Desmos, TikZ will all continue to work as they have too. There will be small issues to iron out as is the case with any many software change but I am confident that this is best for MHB long term.

Talk soon.

Just as a heads up, when we make the switch over to XenForo I will need to close MHB temporarily to do this. I hope it won't take more than part of a day. Once that date is set I'll make an announcement.

Another thing to keep in mind. While I tried very hard to keep the functionality that makes MHB great for math question like LaTeX, Desmos, and TikZ, there are going to be things that are not the same. Not every piece of vBullletin will come to XF. I think that with some time we will all get used to the new and hopefully better software and if there truly are holes where we need to add something I will look into it.

XF will work natively on your phones! LaTeX will render, you can post easily. It's all native to the software unlike vB and Tapatalk. It is also much lighter in its overall size so loads faster and feels snappier. I think you will notice this immediately. Our current site is a bit slow and has a lot of pieces to load. It's not optimal.

I'll repeat all of this in the announcement I'll make when the migration date is set. Should be in 1-2 weeks. If you have any last minute thoughts this is truly the time to speak up.
