Worried about my chances of getting into graduate school in mathematics

In summary, failing a course may not ruin your chances of grad school in discrete math, but it is important to take steps to show your competency in the subject and address any concerns in your application.

I am hoping of going to graduate school to do discrete mathematics for which my university is fairly strong in. The only problem is that I failed second year discrete math. I did not fail it because it was too hard, in fact, it was quite easy. I failed it because I misread the timetable and missed my final exam. Is it simply enough to do third year discrete math and go on; should I repeat the second year course or have I ruined my chances of grad school in discrete math altogether?
Any honest answers will be appreciated
Thanks

It is definitely possible to still pursue graduate school in discrete math, even if you failed a course. However, it is important to demonstrate your proficiency in the subject and show that you have learned from the experience. You should talk to your advisor about repeating the course or finding other ways to demonstrate your knowledge and competency in discrete math. Depending on the graduate program, you may be asked to provide additional evidence of your knowledge such as an essay or portfolio of work. Additionally, having a strong academic record and letters of recommendation from faculty who can speak to your knowledge and ability in the subject can be beneficial in the application process.
