What formulas would apply during a Big Crunch

In summary, during a hypothesized Big Crunch, the velocity of the universe would approach the speed of light and its mass would greatly increase. However, the concept of relativistic mass is not necessary and a Big Crunch is not compatible with our current understanding of the universe. The equations that would apply in such a collapse are the same as those used to describe the Big Bang, known as the Friedmann equations. The rate of the collapse can be calculated using these equations, but they may be complex and not easily solvable for those with limited mathematical skills.

During a hypothesized big crunch, how quickly will a universe collapse? As the velocity approaches the speed of light, its mass will increase greatly. What equations will apply in such a collapse?

  1. A Big Crunch is not compatible with our current knowledge of the content of the Universe.
  2. It would not happen with ”a speed”, it would happen with a rate.
  3. Mass does not increase with speed. Relativistic mass is an unnecessary concept.
  4. A Big Crunch would be described by the exact same equations as the Big Bang, the Friedmann equations.

How is the rate calculated? The Friedmann equations are above my mathematical skill level. Is there a solution of the Friedmann equations that simplify the rate inflation/deflation calculations?

What is a Big Crunch?

A Big Crunch is a hypothetical scenario in which the expansion of the universe eventually halts and reverses, leading to the collapse of the universe into a singularity.

What formulas are used to describe a Big Crunch?

The equations used to describe a Big Crunch are the Friedmann equations, which are a set of equations from general relativity that describe the evolution of the universe. These equations take into account factors such as the density and pressure of matter and energy in the universe.

What is the role of dark energy in a Big Crunch?

Dark energy is believed to be the force behind the accelerating expansion of the universe. In a Big Crunch scenario, the effect of dark energy would decrease as the universe collapses, eventually becoming negligible.

What is the difference between a Big Crunch and a Big Bounce?

A Big Crunch results in the universe collapsing into a singularity, while a Big Bounce is a theory that suggests the universe will collapse and then bounce back into a new cycle of expansion. The main difference between the two is whether or not the collapse results in a singularity.

Is there evidence for a Big Crunch?

Currently, there is no experimental evidence for a Big Crunch. Observations of the expansion of the universe suggest that the expansion is accelerating, making a Big Crunch less likely. However, further research and observations are needed to fully understand the fate of the universe.
