The system is inconsistent because it results in a false statement (0=16). This means there is no solution that satisfies both equations, making the system dependent. In summary, the given system of equations is inconsistent and dependent.

Determine whether the following system is independent, inconsistent, or dependant.
3x – 4y = 8

0.75x – y = -2

Are you saying that you do not know what "independent", "dependent", or "inconsistent" mean? I think you would be better served by looking up the definitions yourself in your textbook.

There are a number of ways of determining whether or not a system of equations is "independent" or "consistent" but the simplest is to try to solve the equations and see what happens.

Is this correct?

3x – 4y = 8
.75x - y = -2
so,
-4(0.75x – y) = (-2)-4
-3x + 4y = 8
0=16 This is inconsistent

Yep, you've got it!

1. Can you explain the concept of a "jump start" in problem solving?

A "jump start" in problem solving refers to the process of getting a head start on finding a solution to a problem. It involves identifying potential strategies and approaches to the problem before diving into the actual problem-solving process.

2. How can I get a jump start in solving a complex problem?

To get a jump start in solving a complex problem, it is important to break the problem down into smaller, more manageable parts. This allows for a more focused approach and can help identify potential solutions more efficiently.

3. Do I need any specific skills to be able to get a jump start in solving a problem?

No, anyone can learn to get a jump start in problem solving. The key is to have a strong problem-solving mindset and to be open to trying different strategies and approaches.

4. Can a jump start actually save time in the problem-solving process?

Yes, a jump start can save time in the problem-solving process by helping to identify potential solutions and avoiding wasted time on ineffective approaches. It also allows for a more organized and efficient problem-solving process.

5. Is it possible to get a jump start in solving a problem if I don't have all the information?

Yes, it is still possible to get a jump start in solving a problem even if you don't have all the information. In fact, sometimes starting with limited information can actually lead to more creative and innovative solutions. It's important to gather as much information as possible, but don't let a lack of information stop you from getting a head start on the problem-solving process.
