Temporary high-pressure Hydrogen storage?

In summary, the conversation discussed the use of compressed Hydrogen storage and the possibility of using a tank to store high-pressure Hydrogen for a short period of time before converting it to hydride for long-term storage. However, it was mentioned that this process could be wasteful and pose practical difficulties and danger. The conversation concluded with the advice to avoid attempting this method.

I've been looking into compressed Hydrogen storage, and it seems that the high pressure containers have a lot of layers on the inside to keep the Hydrogen from leaking out/diffusing over the lifetime. However now I'm curious as to whether you could use a tank to store high-pressure Hydrogen (in the 10,000 psi range) for a short while (in the 3-4 hr range) while the hydrogen gets converted to hydride for more longterm storage?

Kind of wasteful, compressing it, isn't it?

Many practical difficulties and extremely dangerous - just don't do it .

Related to Temporary high-pressure Hydrogen storage?

1. What is temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage?

Temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage refers to the process of storing hydrogen gas in a compressed state for a short period of time. This method is commonly used in industries and research labs to store hydrogen before it is used in various applications.

2. What are the benefits of temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage?

One of the main benefits of temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage is its ability to store hydrogen in a compact form, saving space and making it easier to transport. It also allows for quick and easy access to hydrogen when needed, as it can be released from the storage tank rapidly.

3. How is temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage achieved?

To achieve temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage, hydrogen gas is compressed and stored in specialized high-pressure tanks. The pressure inside these tanks can reach up to 10,000 psi, allowing for a large amount of hydrogen to be stored in a small space.

4. What are the safety considerations for temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage?

Safety is a top concern when it comes to temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage. The high pressure inside the storage tanks can pose a risk if proper precautions are not taken. It is important to regularly inspect and maintain the tanks to ensure they are in good condition and to follow proper handling and storage procedures.

5. What are the applications of temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage?

Temporary high-pressure hydrogen storage is commonly used in industries such as fuel cell technology, transportation, and chemical production. It is also used in research labs for various experiments and studies that require high-pressure hydrogen gas.
