String Theory and related theories like M Theory have strong constraints in the number of dimensions where they can be formulated (for example, in the case of M theory, it is only allowed in 11D or in the case of bosonic string theory is only allowed in 26D.
Since string theory and related theories have existed for several decades (or at least several years) and since there are a lot of physicists working in these kind of theories, I was wondering whether there is a known version of string theory (or any related theory) that could work in any number of dimensions (even infinitely many dimensions)?
