when the rod is put near to sphere A a positive charge accumulated on it and a negative charge on sphere B but I am really confused i think that both spheres can be positive so if you have an answer pls help and explain it

Yes, you are correct. Static electricity refers to the buildup of electric charge on the surface of an object. This charge can be either positive or negative, depending on the movement of electrons. When an object gains electrons, it becomes negatively charged, and when it loses electrons, it becomes positively charged. These charges can interact with each other, leading to phenomena such as attraction or repulsion between objects. Understanding the properties and behavior of positive and negative charges is important in many areas of science, including electricity and magnetism, as well as in practical applications such as electronics and power generation.

Related to Static Electricity: Positive & Negative Charges

What is static electricity?

Static electricity is a build-up of electric charges on the surface of an object. These charges are created when electrons are transferred between two objects, causing one object to have a positive charge and the other to have a negative charge.

What causes static electricity?

Static electricity is caused by the transfer of electrons between two objects. This can happen when two objects rub against each other, causing electrons to be transferred from one object to the other. The object that gains electrons becomes negatively charged, while the object that loses electrons becomes positively charged.

Why do objects with opposite charges attract each other?

Objects with opposite charges attract each other because of the attractive force between positive and negative charges. This force is known as electrostatic force and is responsible for the movement of electrons between objects.

How can static electricity be discharged?

Static electricity can be discharged by connecting the charged object to a conductor, such as a metal rod. This allows the excess charge to flow through the conductor and neutralize the object's charge.

Is static electricity dangerous?

In most cases, static electricity is not dangerous. However, in certain situations, such as in the presence of flammable gases or liquids, it can cause sparks and potentially start fires. Additionally, static electricity can damage electronic devices if discharged incorrectly. It is important to take precautions to prevent static electricity build-up in these situations.
