The staff have agreed that "bumping" a thread by calling attention to it in a different thread violates the spirit of Forum Rule # 1. Therefore, we have appended the following sentence to Forum Rule # 1:
Now the spirit and the letter match up a bit better. Please take note of this addition to our forum rules. Rule # 1 now reads as follows:It is also not allowed indirectly to bump one thread by drawing attention to it in a different thread.
No bumping. To bump a thread is to post a reply to it purely in order to raise the thread's profile and return it to the top of the list of active threads. This is not allowed at MHB. If a member wants to draw attention to a thread that has not received a reply, s/he is asked to post a reply that contains something of value (such as further progress that has been made on the question). It is also not allowed indirectly to bump one thread by drawing attention to it in a different thread.
