Quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp

In summary, the quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp is generally lower compared to other types of lamps due to its monochromatic light. Factors such as current, temperature, and sodium vapor affect the quantity of photons emitted. As the lamp ages, the quantity of photons decreases due to the loss of sodium vapor and buildup of impurities. It is possible to adjust the quantity of photons emitted by changing the current, but this can also affect the color and temperature of the light. A photometer is typically used to measure the quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp.

How many photons is sendt out per second from a 100 W natrium lamp, which gives a wawelenght of 589 nm(if 50% of the energi goes to the creation of light)?

I think I have to use photo elektric effect, but how?

Hints, anyone?

You don't have to use the photoelectric effect. Each photon carries an energy determined by its wavelength. If you know the energy the lamp dissipates as light (per second) you can calculate how much photons that amounts to (per second).

Related to Quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp

1. How does the quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp compare to other types of lamps?

The quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp is generally lower than other types of lamps such as fluorescent or LED lamps. This is because the sodium lamp emits monochromatic light, meaning it only produces a single wavelength of light, while other lamps emit a broader spectrum of light.

2. What factors affect the quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp?

The quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp is affected by several factors, including the amount of current flowing through the lamp, the temperature of the lamp, and the amount of sodium vapor present in the lamp. These factors can impact the efficiency and intensity of the light emitted.

3. How does the quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp change over time?

The quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp decreases over time as the lamp ages. This is due to the gradual loss of sodium vapor and the buildup of impurities on the surface of the lamp, which can reduce its efficiency and output of light.

4. Can the quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp be adjusted?

The quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp can be adjusted by changing the amount of current flowing through the lamp. However, this can also affect the color and temperature of the light emitted, so it is important to carefully balance the desired quantity of photons with other factors.

5. How is the quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp measured?

The quantity of photons emitted from a sodium lamp is typically measured using a photometer, which measures the intensity of light at a specific wavelength. The results are then compared to a standard measurement to determine the exact quantity of photons emitted by the lamp.
