@dlgoff reminded me that we haven't done one of these in awhile.

No votes means no money donated. C'mon folks! :)

A bunch of science minded people are going to have to thoroughly research every cause before voting so that they vote informed, especially when $100 is on the line (that's like, five scientist meals)

Only 5 votes! Let's go!
Maybe this isn't visible enough here? Maybe an attention getter on the home page? It's hard to imagine there are only 5 votes when there are 50 members on-line currently; midnight CDT.

I think it is great that PF is contributing like this. This said, as all the possible choices are US-centric, it is hard for me to pick one. They're most probably all worthy charities, so I don't really care exactly where the money will go. I'll leave the choice to others.

Apparently, I'm the only commercial fisherman on this board.

I have a long time relationship with Carnegie Mellon University, so I'm somewhat biased.

Though, I've just discovered:

https://carnegiescience.edu/about/andrew_carnegies_organizations

The Carnegie Confusion

Most people do not realize that Andrew Carnegie established over 20 different, and mutually unaffiliated, organizations to support everything from teaching and peace, to heroes and science. We are the Carnegie Institution for Science with six research departments on the East and West Coasts. Below is a listing of all the Carnegie entitites and their contact information.

Whatever.

I'm sure all 5 charities are worthy.

But... Vote Carnegie! They'll put a chicken in your pot!

Or... Vote Sea Education Association! They'll put a tuna salad sandwich in your pot!

PF is enjoyed by a lot of science teachers. I think Teaching Matters is best.

1. What is PF and what is their donation for?

PF stands for "personal finance" and their donation is for a charity of your choice.

2. How can I choose which charity will receive the donation?

Upon receiving the donation, PF will provide you with a list of pre-approved charities to choose from. You can select one of these charities to receive the donation.

3. Is there a limit on the amount of the donation?

Yes, the donation amount is $100. However, PF may choose to donate more in certain circumstances.

4. Will I receive a tax deduction for the donation?

No, as the donation is being made by PF and not directly by you, you will not receive a tax deduction for it.

5. How often does PF make these donations?

PF makes these donations on a regular basis, typically once a month. However, there may be variations in the frequency depending on the company's financial situation.
