Perhaps an unknown property of gravity....

In summary, the mystery of dark matter remains unsolved despite numerous attempts to find hypothetical particles that could explain it. There is a possibility that gravity itself, at a galactic scale, may have a multiplier effect that has not been discovered or considered in GR theory. This would suggest that the effect is a property of gravity rather than a result of too little mass, and searching for missing particles may be the wrong approach. However, further research and evidence is needed to support this possibility.

The mystery of dark matter seems to resist solution. Search after search comes up empty for the various hypothetical particles that could account for it. Is it possible that gravity itself in sufficient density, as on a galactic scale, has some multiplier effect we have not discovered and GR theory has not considered. So that this effect would be a property of gravity itself rather than the result of too little mass, and looking for missing particles may be the wrong direction altogether.

This is too vague to answer. If you can find a peer-reviewed paper that discusses such a possibility, you might be able to start a discussion based on that. But PF is not in general intended for discussion of speculations. This thread is closed.

Related to Perhaps an unknown property of gravity....

What is gravity and how does it work?

Gravity is a fundamental force of nature that causes objects with mass to attract each other. It is responsible for keeping planets in orbit around the sun and objects on Earth from floating away into space. The exact mechanism of how gravity works is still not fully understood, but scientists believe it is related to the curvature of spacetime.

What is the unknown property of gravity that is being researched?

The unknown property of gravity that is currently being researched is the potential existence of a fifth force of nature. This hypothetical force would be in addition to the four known fundamental forces (gravity, electromagnetism, strong nuclear force, and weak nuclear force) and could help explain some of the inconsistencies in our current understanding of gravity.

How would the discovery of an unknown property of gravity impact our understanding of the universe?

The discovery of a new property of gravity could have a significant impact on our understanding of the universe. It could potentially help us explain phenomena such as dark matter and dark energy, which are currently not well understood. It could also lead to new technologies and advancements in the field of space exploration.

What methods are scientists using to search for this unknown property of gravity?

Scientists are using a variety of methods to search for the unknown property of gravity. These include experiments at particle accelerators, observations of the behavior of matter and energy in space, and theoretical calculations and simulations. Collaborations between different fields of science, such as physics and astronomy, are also being used to further our understanding of gravity.

When can we expect to have a better understanding of gravity and its unknown property?

While progress is being made, it is difficult to predict when we will have a better understanding of gravity and any potential unknown properties it may have. This is a complex and ongoing area of research, and it may take many years or even decades before we have a complete understanding of gravity and its mysteries. However, with advancements in technology and continued research efforts, we are constantly getting closer to unlocking the secrets of the universe.
