What the heck determines if a FM radio can pickup a siginal? The only place my radio can recieve a certain frequency is under my bed  I was talking to people at work today and they said metal in buildings intereferes with the signal and to put it close to a window. I just started working for IBM and the people I work with are normally wrong about facts and it's become second nature for me to google anything they claim but I haven't found many useful articles for this one...

Lots of metal, i.e. a warehouse or metal walls, can interfere. As can high voltage powerlines, don't know why.... and this one stop light in my town....
