Multi-Skilled Engineering - Book Recommendations

In summary, the conversation is about a person looking for book recommendations on both electrical and mechanical engineering, specifically related to math. They mention the abundance of information available on the internet but prefer having a physical book. One recommendation is Advanced Engineering Mathematics by Erwin Kreyszig, which covers various topics and is biased towards electrical engineering. Another suggestion is Transport Phenomena by BSL, which is known as the "Bible of Chemical Engineering" but also applies to mechanical engineering.

Hi Guys,

I am currently looking for some book resources on Both Electrical and Mechanical engineering (Maths Related) . I know we have a full raft of information available on the internet but its nothing like having a good book infront of you.

Any recommendations? I do work in Industry but some of the stuff we are learning is not what i do in my day to day job since i am Technician for focused improvement.

Thanks
Alex

Advanced Engineering Mathematics by Erwin Kreyszig. Great reference textbook, useful for when you are already familiar with the fundamentals and just want to review your math. Covers several different topics ranging from ODEs and PDEs to complex analysis and some numerical analysis. A bit biased towards electrical engineering applications, IMO.

Transport Phenomena by BSL. The classic text on this topic, very mathematical. Sometimes called "the Bible of Chemical Engineering." However, momentum and energy transport are specially important in mechanical engineering.

This allows engineers to work on a variety of projects and tasks, making them more versatile and valuable in the workforce.

2. Why is multi-skilled engineering important?

Multi-skilled engineering is important because it allows engineers to have a broader understanding of different systems and technologies. This can lead to more innovative solutions and better problem-solving abilities. It also makes engineers more adaptable and able to take on different roles within a company.

3. What are some recommended books for learning about multi-skilled engineering?

Some recommended books for learning about multi-skilled engineering include "The Engineer's Career Guide" by John A. Hoschette, "Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician: A Complete Guide to Electrical, Mechanical and Process Skills" by David Dixon, and "Multi-Skilled Technicians: A Guide to the Mechanical and Electrical Trades" by John Hauck.

4. How can multi-skilled engineering benefit a company?

Multi-skilled engineering can benefit a company by reducing the need for multiple specialists, saving time and resources. It also allows for a more holistic approach to problem-solving and can lead to more efficient and effective solutions. Additionally, having multi-skilled engineers can help fill in gaps and cover for absences, ensuring that projects and tasks are not delayed.

5. What skills are important for multi-skilled engineering?

Some important skills for multi-skilled engineering include technical knowledge in different areas of engineering, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication. It is also important for engineers to continuously learn and stay updated on new technologies and techniques in various fields.
