In summary, the Big-8 Management Board and Dead Groups Task Force are seeking a new moderator for the moderated newsgroup sci.physics.plasma, as the previous moderator has resigned. Interested candidates should submit their credentials to the B8MB, and if no suitable moderator is found, the group will be robo-moderated. Discussion and feedback on this process can be found in the newsgroup news.groups. The proposed charter for sci.physics.plasma is to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information within the plasma science and technology community. The newsgroup was initially created in 1994 and has been moderated by John W. McKelliget since 1996.

Moderator Vacancy Announcement (MVA)
sci.physics.plasma

This is a formal Moderator Vacancy Announcement (MVA), begun because the
previous moderator of the moderated newsgroup sci.physics.plasma has
recently resigned. The goal of this process is to find a new moderator
for the group.PROCEDURE:

This is a preliminary procedure, instigated by the Big-8 Management Board
and the Dead Groups Task Force. Discussion of this procedure is strongly
encouraged.

The Big-8 Management Board (B8MB) would like to find a person or a group
willing to moderate sci.physics.plasma. Candidates should write the
B8MB at <board@big-8.org> to present their scientific and newsgroup
credentials.

If no such moderator can be found, the group will probably be
robo-moderated for a time (i.e., posts will not be checked for scientific
content or adherence to the charter). The robomoderator will apply simple
spam filters and prevent cross-posts from appearing in the group.

Those who wish to comment on this request to establish a new moderation
team for this newsgroup should subscribe to news:news.groups and
participate in the relevant threads in that newsgroup.

To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to news.groups.

All discussion of proposed nominees should be posted to news.groups.

If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion
may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that
all discussion appears in news.groups as well.

sci.physics.plasma Plasma Science & Technology community exchange. (Moderated)CHARTER: sci.physics.plasma

Plasmas are as rich as any other state of matter in terms of
distinct processes and they encompass distinguishable scales
ranging from the atomic to the galactic. Opportunities in plasma
science and technology reflect this breadth in phenomena and
scales; one recent list contains close to 200 subject areas and
more than 90 applications areas including thin-film diamond
deposition, toxic waste disposal, plasma arcs for steel
processing, laser self-focusing, fusion for energy production, gas
and arc lamps, cutting and welding, and semiconductor production.

The Plasma Science and Technology research community seeks an
increased dialogue among its multifarious constituencies. The
NEWSGROUP for Plasma Science and Technology is intended as a
community forum for sharing new developments and bringing
researchers together for potential new collaborations. The
newsgroup also provides a forum for public outreach and education.
Postings from students and the general public are welcome as we
all help one another in learning more about the "fourth state of
matter" and its enormous range of applications.

Dear members of the sci.physics.plasma community,

I am writing to inform you that the current moderator of sci.physics.plasma has resigned, and the Big-8 Management Board (B8MB) and Dead Groups Task Force are seeking a new moderator for the group.

The B8MB is looking for a qualified individual or group who is willing to moderate the group and uphold its charter. Candidates should submit their scientific and newsgroup credentials to the B8MB at <board@big-8.org>.

If no suitable moderator can be found, the group will likely be robo-moderated for a period of time. This means that posts will not be checked for scientific content or adherence to the charter, but spam filters will be in place and cross-posts will be prevented from appearing in the group.

We welcome any discussion and feedback on this process in the newsgroup news.groups. All discussion about potential nominees should also be posted there. If necessary, the discussion may also be cross-posted to closely affected groups, but it must also appear in news.groups.

For more information on the B8MB, please visit http://www.big-8.org/.

The proposed charter for sci.physics.plasma is to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information within the plasma science and technology community. This includes discussions on new developments, potential collaborations, public outreach and education.

We ask that you help us in finding a new moderator for this group. Please spread the word to any qualified individuals or groups who may be interested in taking on this role. Thank you for your support and participation in the sci.physics.plasma community.

Dear Big-8 Management Board and Dead Groups Task Force,

As a scientist in the field of plasma science, I am deeply concerned about the recent resignation of the moderator for sci.physics.plasma. This newsgroup serves as an important platform for discussions and collaborations among researchers in this diverse and rapidly advancing field.

I would like to express my support for the current procedure in finding a new moderator for sci.physics.plasma. It is crucial that a qualified and dedicated individual or group is selected to continue moderating the group and ensuring that posts adhere to the group's charter. I also appreciate the consideration for a robomoderator in case a suitable moderator cannot be found, as it would at least maintain the group's presence and prevent spam.

I strongly encourage any interested candidates to submit their credentials to the Big-8 Management Board. It is important that the new moderator has a strong scientific background and a commitment to fostering productive discussions within the community.

I also urge members of the plasma science and technology community to participate in the discussion on this matter in news.groups. This is an opportunity for us to voice our opinions and suggestions for the future of sci.physics.plasma.

Thank you for your efforts in maintaining the Big-8 hierarchy and for your consideration in this important matter.
