In summary, the conversation discusses the equation 2+2=5 and whether it is correct. It turns out to be a joke and references are made to various sources that use the equation as a humorous play on math. The conversation also touches on pop culture, the band Radiohead, and a website titled "Humor in der Mathematik."

Sometimes the obvious is true. 2+2=4, not 5.

Okay, when a website's title is "Humor in der Mathematik," you can be pretty sure it's not real. Both links you provided are jokes.

2+2=5
For extremely large values of 2.

LOL, those are some funny links, Erdem, thanks!

Do you mean that "Houston Euler" is not a real mathematician?

Back in High School we used to say "Euler's number" = five quarts.

I first heard of the equation when reading 1984 . . .

Does anybody ever keep up with pop culture?

You probably saw the

2 + 2 = 5

equation on the back of the new Radiohead album called "Hail To The Thief."

I think they relesed the single in the UK last week so you can go buy it if you want!

The radiohead single was an obvious allusion to the Orwellian novel

Good question russ_watters. Last time I checked, I think it was some sort of body fluid.

1. Is it possible for 2+2 to equal 5?

No, according to basic mathematical principles, 2+2 always equals 4. This is a fundamental rule that cannot be changed or manipulated.

2. Are there any situations where 2+2 might equal 5?

No, there are no known situations where 2+2 would equal 5. Even in complex mathematical equations, 2+2 will always equal 4.

3. Why do some people believe that 2+2 equals 5?

Some people may believe that 2+2 equals 5 due to a misunderstanding or error in calculation. Others may believe it as a philosophical concept or as a way to challenge traditional mathematical principles.

4. Can we change the rules of mathematics to make 2+2 equal 5?

No, the rules of mathematics are based on logical and consistent principles that cannot be altered or manipulated. 2+2 will always equal 4, regardless of personal beliefs or opinions.

5. What would happen if 2+2 did equal 5?

If 2+2 were to equal 5, it would fundamentally change the way we understand and use mathematics in our daily lives. It would also have significant implications for other fields such as science and finance, as calculations and equations would need to be reevaluated.
