In summary, satellite galaxies are small, gravitationally-bound galaxies that orbit around a larger galaxy. The Milky Way is estimated to have around 50 satellite galaxies, and they are formed through the collapse of gas and dust clouds. Satellite galaxies can affect the Milky Way through gravitational interactions and contribute to its overall mass and structure. Recently, new satellite galaxies of the Milky Way have been discovered, including "Crater 2" in 2015 and "Antlia 2" in 2019.

Greetings !

I thought you may like to know that our galaxy -
the Milky Way, apparently has a small settelite
galaxy at relativly close proximity.

Here's the story:

Hey, that's the third, go milky way.

1. What is a satellite galaxy?

A satellite galaxy is a small, gravitationally-bound galaxy that orbits around a larger galaxy, such as the Milky Way.

2. How many satellite galaxies does the Milky Way have?

The Milky Way is estimated to have around 50 satellite galaxies, with the largest and most well-known being the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds.

3. How are satellite galaxies formed?

Satellite galaxies are formed through the same process as larger galaxies - the collapse of gas and dust clouds under the force of gravity. However, they are typically smaller and less massive due to their proximity to a larger galaxy.

4. Do satellite galaxies affect the Milky Way?

Yes, satellite galaxies can affect the Milky Way through gravitational interactions. They can also contribute to the overall mass and structure of the Milky Way.

5. Have any satellite galaxies of the Milky Way been discovered recently?

Yes, new satellite galaxies of the Milky Way are still being discovered. In 2015, a dwarf galaxy called "Crater 2" was discovered, and in 2019, a galaxy named "Antlia 2" was found to be orbiting the Milky Way.
