Introduction to statistics and number theory books

In summary, the individual is seeking recommendations for a good introductory statistics book or books to supplement their math background in calculus 2, linear algebra, and ODE. They also inquire about a good introductory number theory book and whether they should complete discrete mathematics by Epps first. It is recommended to have some familiarity with probability before delving into statistics. Two potential book options for number theory are "Number Theory: A Lively Introduction with Proofs, Applications, and Stories" and "Discrete Mathematics with Applications" by Susanna Epps.

I am inquiring about a good introductory statistics book or books, that supplement each other well.
My math background consist of calculus 2, linear algebra, and ODE.

This is for a first course in statistics.

Also, what would be a good introductory number theory book? Or should I complete discrete mathematics by Epps first before attempting number theory?

Related to Introduction to statistics and number theory books

1. What is the difference between statistics and number theory?

Statistics is the study of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to make informed decisions and predictions. Number theory, on the other hand, is a branch of mathematics that focuses on the properties and relationships of numbers.

2. How can I benefit from learning about statistics and number theory?

Understanding statistics and number theory can help you make well-informed decisions, whether in your personal or professional life. It can also provide a strong foundation for further studies in fields such as economics, psychology, and computer science.

3. Are there any prerequisites for studying statistics and number theory?

A basic understanding of algebra and arithmetic is helpful, but not required. However, a strong foundation in critical thinking and problem-solving skills is essential.

4. What are some real-world applications of statistics and number theory?

Statistics is used in a wide range of fields, including market research, healthcare, and social sciences, to analyze and interpret data. Number theory is used in cryptography, coding theory, and computer science to develop secure communication and data storage methods.

5. What are some recommended books for learning about statistics and number theory?

Some popular titles for introduction to statistics include "Statistics for Dummies" by Deborah J. Rumsey and "The Cartoon Guide to Statistics" by Larry Gonick and Woollcott Smith. For number theory, "An Introduction to the Theory of Numbers" by Ivan Niven, Herbert S. Zuckerman, and Hugh L. Montgomery is a highly recommended book.
