How Torque Wrench Works - Explained with Illustrations

In summary, the conversation was about someone asking for information on how a torque wrench works. They requested illustrations with pictures and specified they were interested in understanding the internal mechanism and how the spring functions to achieve the required torque. The person also mentioned different types of torque wrenches, including dial, beam, and clicker.

What do you mean how a torque wrench works? Do you want to know about beam deflection and torque indication for a really old style pointer torque wrench, or do you want to know how a clicker wrench works or do you want to know how a dial wrench works?

hi

i was wondering about the mechanism of torque wrench, how the spring functions to get the required torque, and how it achieves the required torque, and stuff like that..
more like its internal mechanism..

Related to How Torque Wrench Works - Explained with Illustrations

1. How does a torque wrench work?

A torque wrench works by using a calibrated spring or a lever system to measure the amount of torque, or twisting force, applied to a bolt or nut. When the desired torque is reached, the wrench will click or release, indicating that the correct amount of torque has been applied.

2. What is the purpose of using a torque wrench?

The purpose of using a torque wrench is to ensure that bolts and nuts are tightened to the correct torque specification. This is important for maintaining the structural integrity and safety of machines and equipment, as well as preventing damage or failure due to over- or under-tightening.

3. How do you read a torque wrench?

To read a torque wrench, you first need to set the torque value by turning the handle or adjusting the scale. Then, when using the wrench, you will hear or feel a click or release when the specified torque is reached. The scale or gauge on the wrench will also indicate the amount of torque applied.

4. Can you use a torque wrench for both tightening and loosening?

Yes, you can use a torque wrench for both tightening and loosening bolts and nuts. However, it is important to ensure that the wrench is set to the correct direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) before use.

5. Do all torque wrenches work the same way?

No, there are different types of torque wrenches that work in slightly different ways. Some use a click or release mechanism, while others have a digital display or audible signal. Additionally, there are different types of torque wrenches for different applications, such as beam, dial, and electronic torque wrenches.
