How 'big' is the present moment in terms of time?

In summary, time can be divided into three parts: the future, the present, and the past. The present is represented by a pen on a sheet of paper, with the future above and the past below. The size of the present time is subjective and can be defined differently by individuals. This topic may be considered philosophical and not scientific.

Time can be divided three ways
Time in the future
Time in the present
Time in the past

We are living in the 'present'.

My question: how 'big' is this present time?

It might help if you think of a pen placed on a white sheet of paper. The pen represents our present time. The white space above the pen is the future, below is the past.

So how 'big' is the present time?

i.e. is it 0.0000000000000001 seconds

or even 0.00000... infinitesimally small?

Thanks.

That's not really a scientific question. Everyone in different contexts can define what they mean by the present. That makes it a matter of language, not science.

On second thought. @davenn was right. There is no way this thread is likely to lead to scientific discussion, so I locked it.

Related to How 'big' is the present moment in terms of time?

1. How long is the present moment?

The present moment is a concept that is difficult to define in terms of time. It is often described as the exact point in time that we are experiencing right now, without any consideration for the past or future. Therefore, the length of the present moment can vary depending on individual perception and circumstances.

2. Is the present moment measurable?

No, the present moment is not measurable in terms of time. It is a subjective experience that cannot be quantified or accurately measured. It is constantly shifting and can be influenced by factors such as attention, focus, and perception.

3. How does the present moment relate to time?

The present moment is a part of time, but it is not equivalent to a specific unit of time such as seconds or minutes. It is a continuous flow of the present that is constantly changing and cannot be contained or measured by traditional units of time.

4. Can the present moment be extended or shortened?

Yes, the present moment can feel longer or shorter depending on our perception and state of mind. For example, when we are engaged in an activity that we enjoy, time may seem to pass quickly, whereas when we are bored or anxious, time may seem to drag on.

5. Is the present moment the same for everyone?

No, the present moment can be experienced differently by different people. Factors such as age, culture, and personal experiences can influence how individuals perceive and experience the present moment. It is a subjective experience that is unique to each individual.
