Find the Right Introductory Textbook for You

In summary, when choosing an introductory textbook, it is important to consider the level of difficulty, the author's expertise, the organization and structure of the book, and the relevance of the content to your specific area of study. The level of difficulty can be determined by looking at the target audience, the depth of the content, and the complexity of the concepts and terminology used. It is also important to choose an author who is an expert in the field and has a strong background and experience in teaching the subject. The organization and structure of the textbook should be logical, clear, and easy to follow, with additional resources and features such as online study guides, practice quizzes, or real-life examples being helpful in supplementing your learning.

I'm not sure either qualify as 'introductory', but we used Yariv's "Quantum Electronics" as a textbook, and I use Mandel and Wolf's "Optical Coherence and Quantum Optics" as a reference.
