is it right to say that "diabetic patients are immunocompromised "? if yes then why?
That is too general or broad. It also depends on the conditions patients are suffering from e.g complex glycemic control in their bodies due to an increase of ketone level or those with vascular abnormalities and peripheral neuropathy.keep@science said:is it right to say that "diabetic patients are immunocompromised "? if yes then why?
Example: HIV infections attacking the immune system.having an impaired immune system.

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that affects how your body processes glucose (sugar). It occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces, resulting in high levels of glucose in the blood.
Diabetes Mellitus can cause immunocompromisation in several ways. Firstly, high blood sugar levels can weaken the immune system's response to infections. Additionally, diabetes can damage small blood vessels and nerves, which can impair the body's ability to fight infections. Furthermore, some medications used to treat diabetes can also suppress the immune system.
No, not all diabetic patients are immunocompromised. People with well-managed diabetes who maintain healthy blood sugar levels and follow proper self-care measures may not experience any immune system impairment. However, those with poorly controlled diabetes are at a higher risk of being immunocompromised.
Immunocompromised diabetic patients are more susceptible to infections and have a harder time fighting them off. This can lead to more severe and prolonged illnesses, as well as an increased risk of developing complications such as pneumonia, skin infections, and urinary tract infections.
Diabetic patients can protect their immune system by managing their blood sugar levels, following a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and getting recommended vaccines. It is also essential to take proper care of any wounds or infections and promptly seek medical attention if needed.
