I have not tried using alcohol in cooking, but this thread reminded me the following joke.

The wise old Mother Superior from county Tipperary was dying. The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her comfortable. They gave her some warm milk to drink, but she refused it. Then one nun took the glass back to the kitchen.

Remembering a bottle of Irish whiskey they had received as a gift the previous Christmas, she opened and poured a generous amount into the warm milk.

When she walked back at Mother Superior's bed, she held the glass to her lips. Mother drank a little, then a little more. Before they knew it, she had drunk the whole glass down to the last drop.

"Mother," the nuns asked with earnest, "please give us some wisdom before you die."

She raised herself up in bed with a pious look on her face and said, "Don't sell that cow."

It reminds me of Eddie's Vodka Margarine from bottom

I believe (but don't quote me on it) that depending on what you cook the alcohol evaporates so there's not much difference but in other cases it doesn't. Either way it's better not to drive (Shake)

Cooking with alcohol is not something I typically do because it's too nice and I don't want to waste my lovely Swedish cider or my spirits (Pernod is the choice du jour)

One of the very best grilled meats I ever had used a beer-based marinade on some small beef steaks, followed by grilling on a coal-based grill. It was truly astounding.
