In summary, the conversation discusses the various types of personal protective equipment (PPE) needed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The speakers mention seeing Russian President Putin and a local doctor wearing a full face respirator and gown while entering a hospital, which prompts one speaker to order a 3M full face respirator. They then discuss the different types of gowns available and the difficulties hospitals are facing in obtaining enough PPE. They also mention the benefits of reusable over disposable gowns and the material used in most gowns, Tyvek. The conversation concludes with one speaker planning to wear PPE when visiting a hospital clinic next month.

After seeing Putin wearing a full face respirator and gown while entering hospital with Covid and seeing a local doctor wearing one too. I ordered the 3M full face respirator like it. But I'm not sure what kind of gown or coveralls to gets.

There are many local advertisements about the gown but most either locally made or made in china. So what kind of gown to look for? Are all PPE gowns hazmat? Is the Covid-19 a hazmat (hazardous material)? Reusable is better than disposable.

Next month I plan to visit a hospital clinic for consultation with a doctor so want to wear one when entering the hospital too.

The gown material is generally Tyvek, a synthetic made by Dupont. It is also used in building construction as a vapor barrier and in packaging. It's a rather sturdy material and hard to tear.

And here is a story in the Los Angeles Times newspaper that shows how much work the hospitals have to do to get the safety equipment.

Related to Choosing the Right PPE Gown for Covid-19 Protection: Tips and Recommendations

1. What is PPE and why is it important for Covid-19 protection?

PPE stands for Personal Protective Equipment and it refers to any equipment or clothing that is worn to protect against potential hazards. In the case of Covid-19, PPE is important because it helps to prevent the spread of the virus by creating a barrier between the wearer and potential sources of infection.

2. What are the different types of PPE gowns available for Covid-19 protection?

There are three main types of PPE gowns available for Covid-19 protection: disposable gowns, reusable gowns, and surgical gowns. Disposable gowns are made of a non-woven fabric and are designed for single-use. Reusable gowns are made of a more durable material and can be washed and reused. Surgical gowns are typically used in medical settings and are designed to provide a higher level of protection.

3. How do I choose the right PPE gown for Covid-19 protection?

When choosing a PPE gown for Covid-19 protection, it is important to consider the level of risk you will be exposed to, the duration of exposure, and the level of protection needed. Additionally, you should ensure that the gown fits properly and covers all areas of the body that may be at risk of exposure.

4. Are there any specific recommendations for using PPE gowns in healthcare settings?

Yes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has specific recommendations for the use of PPE gowns in healthcare settings. These include selecting the appropriate level of protection based on the type of procedure being performed, properly donning and doffing the gown, and following proper infection control practices.

5. Can PPE gowns be reused for Covid-19 protection?

It depends on the type of gown. Disposable gowns are designed for single-use and should not be reused. Reusable gowns can be washed and reused, but it is important to follow proper cleaning and disinfection protocols. Surgical gowns can also be reused but should be properly sterilized before each use.
