In summary, factoring some more is the process of breaking down a mathematical expression into smaller components, known as factors. It is important in mathematics because it helps solve complex equations and identify patterns. Techniques such as finding the greatest common factor, using the distributive property, or completing the square can be used to factor some more. The main difference between factoring and factoring some more is that factoring is the initial process, while factoring some more is an additional step. It can also be applied in real-life situations such as finance, engineering, and computer science.

Factor.

I need help getting me started with this monster question.

[(x-a)^(-1/2)]/2 * (x+a)^(-1/2) - [(x+a)^(1/2)]/2 *(x-a)^(-3/2)

Do I factor out (x - a)^(-3/2) as step one?

We are given to factor:

\(\displaystyle \frac{1}{2}(x-a)^{-\frac{1}{2}}(x+a)^{-\frac{1}{2}}-\frac{1}{2}(x-a)^{\frac{1}{2}}(x+a)^{-\frac{3}{2}}\)

As my first step, I would factor out:

\(\displaystyle \frac{1}{2}(x-a)^{-\frac{1}{2}}(x+a)^{-\frac{3}{2}}\)

That was my first choice to factor out.
