API Specification for a Hydraulic Pressure Intensifier

In summary, an API specification for a Hydraulic Pressure Intensifier is a set of guidelines and standards that outline the design, functionality, and performance requirements for this specific type of hydraulic component. It is important because it helps to ensure consistency and quality in production and use, as well as compatibility and interchangeability between different manufacturers and systems. The specification is typically created and maintained by a committee of experts in the field of hydraulics, and may include parameters such as maximum operating pressure, flow rate, temperature range, and materials of construction. It can be obtained from the committee or organization that creates and maintains it, or from industry associations or standards organizations.

Greetings,

We purchased a hydraulic pressure intensifier. It works by using piston areas.. so a high pressure piston and a low pressure piston causing reciprocation and thus intensification downstream based on the pistons ratio. (has internal check valves, a sequencing valve, and a pressure relief valve)

I am trying to find API specifications (or any other) that will guide me in writing a qualification test procedure for the intensifier.

Mainly looking for cycle testing and endurance of the intensifier over long term operation. I don't want to make up a cycle test based on what I think might be a good measure of endurance and thus following a standard would be extremely helpful.

This is to be used subsea for pressurizing accumulators.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thank You

Regards

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out regarding your hydraulic pressure intensifier. I am happy to assist you in finding the appropriate API specifications for your qualification test procedure.

The API (American Petroleum Institute) has several specifications and standards that may be relevant to your intensifier. Specifically, I would recommend looking at API Specification 6A, which covers requirements for wellhead and Christmas tree equipment, including hydraulic systems. Additionally, API Specification 16D covers control systems for drilling well control equipment, which may also have relevant information for your intensifier.

In terms of cycle testing and endurance, API RP (Recommended Practice) 17A provides guidelines for design and operation of subsea production systems, and may have recommendations for testing and endurance requirements. Furthermore, API RP 17B covers subsea production control systems and may have additional information on testing and endurance.

I would also recommend consulting with the manufacturer of your intensifier for their recommended testing procedures and any specific guidelines they may have.

I hope this information helps guide you in writing your qualification test procedure. Please let me know if you have any further questions or if I can be of any additional assistance.
