    Hello,

    My vision is not that great, so I have to take some measures when working with MHB in Firefox. I set the recommended font size (not just for MHB) at 18 points, and the minimum size at 12 points. Besides I use zoom probably at about 150%. I am also using a 15-inch laptop, which makes things more difficult. I am concerned that the post preview box is too wide. In the following picture, Firefox takes up the whole screen width (minus the Ubuntu launcher along the left edge).

    I don't want to scroll left because then the text would be hidden by the social media buttons at the left edge. The result is that the first line of the second paragraph (which contains the link "Wikipedia") has two whole words "most authors" that are off the screen (they follow "Wikipedia says that"). Things are even worse in the first paragraph again because of the social media buttons at the right edge. Having to scroll the preview horizontally is rather inconvenient.

    I think the issue here is more about the minimum width of the page in our default skin. I found your post in the image above, and tried the post preview, and when I resized my browser window, the width shrank to a certain point, after which the right side was truncated at exactly the place you are experiencing.

    I would suggest you try our skin for small screens, but it will have to be brought up to date with recent changes first before I would ask anyone to use it. I will do so within the next 24 hours, and let you know when it is done and then ask you to try that skin and see if it addresses the issue.

    Another option is to move the Ubuntu toolbar. You could probably put it somewhere else, say on the top or bottom. Then you could salvage some extra screen width.

    Okay, the small screen style (skin) has now been brought up to date with all the recent changes, and should function correctly. Please let me know if this is a viable option for you, Evgeny.

    In fact, in the standard Ubuntu desktop called Unity the launcher (a column of buttons with running and often used programs) cannot be moved from the left: see . It is possible to hide it when not in use, but I am used to it being always on the screen. After all, even though this is a laptop, the width of the screen minus the launcher is still 31cm. It's not an iPhone with a screen 6cm wide.

    Here is what I discovered concerning widths. In the default skin, both the post region and the preview region change width depending on the width of the browser window. In the following table the measurements are in pixels and are approximate, zoom level is 1 (normal).

    \begin{array}{lccc}
    &\text{Minimum}&\text{Maximized browser window}&\text{Maximum}\\
    \text{Width of post}&660&850&910\\
    \text{Width of preview}&860&1050&1110
    \end{array}

    The numbers corresponding to the maximized browser window depend on my screen; other columns are probably properties of the site. You see that the numbers corresponding to the preview are 1.2-1.3 times larger. With normal zoom, both posts and preview fit in my screen. However, when the zoom level is 1.5, region width is multiplied by that much, so the minimum width of normal posts is 990, and that of previews is 1290. I have about 1200px available ignoring the social media buttons, so normal posts fit, but previews do not.

    I don't see the reason why previews should be wider than normal posts and think that their width should be made the same as normal post width.

    Thanks, I tried it and the social media buttons on the left seem gone, which is very nice. It seems that the post and preview regions now have the same width regardless of the width of the browser window, and this width is the minimal one in the table above. However, as I said, even the minimal width does not fit at zoom level 1.5.

    Two things I noticed are that the "My Posts" link on top is missing in the small-screen skin and the "Thanks" button under a post is located at the left edge of the post and not at the right edge as in the normal skin.

    Ah, I see. Well, this confirms me in my choice of Xubuntu, then. In some ways, Xubuntu is more customizable than Ubuntu! Xubuntu doesn't have quite the same slickness of launcher (feels more like Windows XP than Windows 7), but I can move it around to any of the four sides. Moreover, it seems to me that Xubuntu runs faster than Ubuntu on most hardware.

    Any chance the link "My Posts" can be added on top in the small-screen skin?

    There are many minor issues with the "For Small Screens" skin, and I plan to, in the not too distant future, try to fix some issues overall with our navigation system. At that point in time, we may decide to re-create the small screen skin as a child of the default skin so that the only difference is the width.

    I don't really have time right now, but in the meantime I will look into why the "My Posts" link is missing from the small screen skin.

    Evgeny,

    We have replaced the "For Small Screens" skin with a new one based off of the default. You should now find that you have all of the functionality of the default skin in this skin which is set to the same width as the old skin for small screens.

    If you experience any problems with this new skin, please let us know.
