I Is the Universe bigger than we think?

Thank you for your reply, I genuinely appreciate it. Can you elaborate on which part of my question fundamentally misunderstands modern cosmology? The link http://preposterousuniverse.com/writings/cosmologyprimer/index.html is broken, just an FYI. I understand (or think I understand) the...

I Is the Universe bigger than we think?

As inflation happens, effectively, faster than the speed of light (between any given two points) and we can only see 14 billion years back, is it possible the data we need, to judge the age of the universe, is actually beyond our detection abilities. Could the age of the universe be greater...

Are exploding supernovae responsible for heavy metal content in ancient stars?

It is my understanding that once the core of a star starts to create iron it quickly collapses in on itself and goes supernova because of the mass of the iron and no longer has the energy to convert the iron to anything else. I am a novice and may be wrong but this is how I understand it.

Why is the existence of The Big Bang agreed upon?

I am not as learned as most (all of you) but I think the misconception at the beginning of this thread with black holes and white holes is that the first poster viewed black holes as funnels to somewhere like a tornado. A black hole does not take matter and transfer it somewhere else it take...

Speed of light vs. the universe's inflation

Russ, thanks for the reply. I understand that space does not move but the things in the "space" of the early universe did move namely radiation. Was there empty universe expanding faster than radiation? The expanding radiation is what made up the universe as there was no space yet. I...

Speed of light vs. the universe's inflation

I understand that the Speed of light is the universal speed limit (I do not believe this is in question). However, I watched Steven Hawking's show this weekend on TV where they stated "10 minutes after the big bang the universe was thousands of light years across." How is this possible if...
