    Quantum mechanics and electrons.

What about Einsteinian effects? I've heard many phenomena (most famously the colour of gold) explained as relativistic effects due to the speed of electrons around heavy nuclei. How does that fit?

Just a weird idea, friction-less materials

I suggest beginning your experiments with several tests on banana skins. They seem pretty slippy to me.

Exploring Semiconductors: Understanding Excitons and their Bohr Radius

With regards to semiconductors - am I correct in thinking the term 'exciton' refers to an electron/hole pair? Also what does it mean when I am told that the Bohr radius of a silicon exciton is 5nm - how can such an entity have a set radius?

    Voltammetry of alkylated colloids

I'm simply trying to reduce / oxidise the particles in contact with the working electrode, driven by an external potential, in the hope of being able to determine the potentials at which the first oxidation/reduction occurs and therefore be able to calculate the HOMO-LUMO energy gap. The...

    Voltammetry of alkylated colloids

Can anyone point me towards some background reading on how to go about using voltammetry to determine energy levels in semiconductor nanoparticles that are held in colloidal suspension by an alkyl (probably undecyl) monolayer - will this hydrophobic envelope pose problems in terms of getting...

Quantised Photon Energy and Compton Scattering

To back me up with some of my chemistry courses this year, I picked up a quantum mechanics book that looked like it included some fairly simple introductions to quantum principles. However, in the first chapter it used Compton scattering, the lowering in wavelength of X rays due to collision...
