Schools MSEE Programs for Low GPA - Schools & Atlanta Area Options

Hello all, I am currently trying to get into a Masters Electrical Engineering program. I earned my BSEE from Georgia Tech ~3 years ago, and have been working as an electrical engineer since. Unfortunately, my GPA was quite low when graduating (~2.84). I did reasonably well on my GREs, (600...

    Understanding Half Bridge Driver

Thank you! That makes sense and that TI webpage is a very good reference. One more question, what is the reasoning for doing this? The only benefits I see are: 1. Reduced Ripple Currents 2. Easier to regulate voltage by varying the frequency of the oscillator Are these the only reasons? It...

    Understanding Half Bridge Driver

I'm trying to understand what this IC is doing and what the "typical application" circuit is doing http://www.onsemi.com/pub_link/Collateral/NCP1392-D.PDF It looks to me like this is the basic idea. AC comes in, PFC is done, signal is rectified so that a DC signal is coming into the IC...

Low Undergraduate GPA: Is it Still Possible?

Also, are there things I can do at this point to get help my chances? I have taken the general GREs and gotten an 800 in math. I didn't score very high in writing/verbal (~550).

Low Undergraduate GPA: Is it Still Possible?

It seems like most schools in the area have a minimum GPA requirement of 3.0. Will this still apply since I've been out of school for a couple years? Also, is it possible to get back into Georgia Tech with such a low GPA? And anyone know of some other schools in the Atlanta area I can apply to?

Low Undergraduate GPA: Is it Still Possible?

My last job was doing hardware designs for ethernet switches and it was not quite what I expected. I was doing work at the board level-- basically creating schematics around ASICs that did most of the work. I did some power supply design then and it was my favorite part. Right now I'm working...

Thank you, that makes me feel better. I have been fortunate to have pretty decent work experience.

Low Undergraduate GPA: Is it Still Possible?

Hello All, I graduated from Georgia Tech ~3 years ago with quite a low GPA. I ended up with a 2.84 cumulative for my BSEE degree. I know this is not good. Since then, I have done a couple of small personal electronics projects and have been working in industry for 3 years. I also started...

Response of LTI System A to x(t): y(t)=x(t)-x(t-2a)

Write out the equations of the lines. You know that the equations are equal for 0<t<2a and 4a<t<6a. Write out the equation of y(t) for 2a<t<4a. Relate that equation to the equation for x(t).

High Frequency Transformer Design and Troubleshooting

I've tried sticking a computer fan on it. I was thinking about maybe getting two little piezos and sandwiching the transformer in there, or maybe one piezo and a computer fan.

High Frequency Transformer Design and Troubleshooting

Thank you, yes it is dangerous but we always test in a very controlled/safe environment. How can I wrap an air core? Do I just wrap the secondary around a bobbin, the primary on top of the secondary and remove the bobbin? Again, thank you for the help.

Suggestions for 9V Audio Chip for Portable Radio/Boom Box

I've been using the TPA3118 for some personal projects that sound somewhat similar to yours. Its a great sounding amp and TI has eval boards and gerbers available for these chips. Looks like the TPA3130 might have the specs you're looking for http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tpa3118d2.pdf...

High Frequency Transformer Design and Troubleshooting

I am trying to do some high frequency dielectric strength testing. Right now, we are using a 500kHz generator capable of outputting ~100Vp-p and running it through a hand wound toroidal transformer. It is working okay but we are having problems with the waveform getting distorted and voltage...

Adding a 2V DC Bias to AC Mains

Thanks guys, I got the circuit working. Now, I'm not entirely sure I understand the reasoning behind this test (it is a UL requirement which is why I'm doing it). It seems to me that 2V across a winding with ~10ohm resistance would not make much of a difference as far as heat goes. Could...
