I Asteroid Response Help: Get Answers to Your Questions Here

Possibly a more efficient method would be to drill into the asteroid and bury the nuclear device some distance below the surface. This would have the advantage of blowing out a large amount of material from the asteroid and creating a larger thrust. An additional factor in this solution would...

Motor Control Test: Check Setup AC Drive & Motor

These tests are usually defined by the motor/drive manufacturer. If you have questions about the tests you should contact the manufacturer.

Compute the useable power in a simple circuit with resistive vs. reactive loads

Is the thermoelectric generator a DC source? If so, it makes no sense to talk about reactances. All capacitors will be open and all inductors shorts. What is an MPPT device? If your thermoelectric generator is DC and the load reactance is inductive, it wouldn't make any difference.

Compute the useable power in a simple circuit with resistive vs. reactive loads

Both Anorlunda and Baluncore are correct. When matching impedances you need to cancel the reactances between Zsrc and Zload. If you are matching a complex impedance to a real source such as a coax cable you need to introduce a matching network that cancels the load's reactance. If you are...

Electrical A speed limiter for a Universal Motor in an old Lionel Train

Many years ago I worked for an employer who made radio controls for locomotives among other things and wanted an O gauge demo unit for shows. The main requirement was that it not lurch at start-up. I ran a signal generator, set for square wave output, through an amplifier to power the train to...

How did Galileo manufacture his telescope?

Once while in Florence I visited a museum dedicated to the original instruments of Galileo. One only has to examine the instruments to understand the degree of craftsmanship that Galileo possessed. https://www.museogalileo.it/en/

Relay and Capacitor circuit - blinking LED

Perhaps R2 is dropping enough voltage to prevent the relay from activating. What is the purpose of R2? How much current does the relay draw?

You may be interested in this story about Eli Whitney, from https://www.asme.org/topics-resources/content/eli-whitney The young Whitney was a natural tinkerer. Teaching high school students for the first time

When I was in high school I had a history class and a math class consecutively. The history teacher joked around with the students but overall was unable to control the class. The math teacher was very serious, concentrated on the subject and had no trouble controlling the class. Some of the...

Is this officer checking his radar gun calibration incorrectly?

Doppler radar mixes the reflected wave with the transmitted wave to obtain a difference frequency. The difference frequency is what indicates the speed. I suspect that when the radar unit receives an AM signal without a transmitted signal, the unit will naturally mix the sidebands with the...

Is this officer checking his radar gun calibration incorrectly?

I believe you are correct about the way to calibrate a radar gun but I suspect the unit is sensitive enough to detect the vibration even when the tuning fork is held nearly orthoganally.
