PowerWorld Sim: Constant Q, Variable P Impact on Load Bus Voltage

I am currently doing a simulation in PowerWorld where there is simply a generator transmission line and load. The Q (reactive power) of the load is being kept constant and the P (real power) of the load is being increased from 0 to Q. From this, the load bus voltage is being plotted against...

Leading Power Factor - Voltage drop

Hi, I am hoping you can help me understand this concept. I've always known that generators operating a leading power factor lowers voltage drop and a lagging power factor increases voltage rise (as seen here...

    Power Factor - Pratical Question

Hey - I am trying to get a better idea regarding the notion of power factor, and power factor correction as it relates to power systems. Here are my thoughts (I'm looking for confirmation that my intuition is correct): In a power system with inductive loads, the power factor is lagging...

Limits of Integration and finding k

Homework Statement Joint pdf given as kxy for 0 < x < y < 1. Find the value of k. The Attempt at a Solution I understand the process of finding k - doing the double integral and setting it to 1. What I don't understand is the limits of integration for y. I've seen two...

What is the Meaning of Inverse CDF?

Homework Statement Hi, There is one theorm in my Applied Probability course that I am having trouble understanding. It has to do with how to derive various types of random variables from the transformation X= g(U) It says, Let U be a uniform (0,1) random variable and let F(x) denote a...

    Confusion about op-amp statement

In my text it says, "As a result of the negative feedback, it can be shown that the closed-loop gain is almost insensitive to the open-loop gain A of the op amp. For this reason, op amps are used in circuits with feedback paths." I am a bit confused on what it means by closed-loop gain is...

    How can I approximate a 2nd order ODE using 4th order Runge-Kutta?

Homework Statement Hey, I am trying to approximate the solution to a second order ODE using the 4th order Runge-Kutta. I was told that in order to do this, I have to write the second order ODE and a pair of 1st order ODEs. Given that my differential equation is d^2v/dt^2 + adv/dt...

Infinite Loop problem in an array sorting program

Hi, I am writing a function that takes in a real data array and a key partition value, which will rearrange the array so that elements with a lower value than x are placed before the elements with values >= the partition value. It then returns the index of the last element of the array with a...

    Parallel Synchronous Generators

Hi, I am having trouble understanding the three light bulb method for checking whether of not two generators have the same phase sequence. It states in my book, "If all three bulbs get bright and dark together, then the systems have the same phase sequnce." My question is, if the two...

Reference Letters for Co-op/Internship | 3rd Year Engineering Student

Hi, I am currently a 3rd year electrical engineering student and I will looking for 12-16 month co-op/internship following the completion of this year. I have received some reference letters from my professors and just wanted to know, is it advisable to include one or two along with my resume...

Why Is Leakage Flux Represented by an Inductor in Transformer Models?

Hey, I am currently reading about transformers and one aspect of the equivalent circuit that I do not understand is why the leakage flux is represented by an inductor? Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Determing where function is differentiable (Complex Analysis)

Thanks for the help Dick! Just to clarify one more thing. Presuming that I did calculate the paritals right and that leads to 0 + i0, wouldn't that lead to the original function being undefined? As a result, wouldn't the function be differentiable no where?

Determing where function is differentiable (Complex Analysis)

Thinking about it a little more, would this mean when x = 3y, the function is differentiable and when either x=0, y=0, the function is differentiable? Or is my thinking wrong?

Determing where function is differentiable (Complex Analysis)

Alright, so doing the partials and equating I get x = 3y and xy = 3xy But, I am a little confused on what to do from here. Thanks for the help
